Overview

The Omron E3Z-Laser is a compact photoelectric sensor with a built-in amplifier, designed for precision positioning and detection applications using visible LASER light. Its plastic housing makes it suitable for various industrial environments.

Function Description:

The E3Z-Laser sensor utilizes a Class 1 red laser beam (655 nm) for highly accurate detection. It offers Through-beam, Retro-reflective with MSR function, and Distance-settable (BGS) models. The optical design ensures linear propagation of laser beams, allowing for precise alignment on targeted positions. The sensor is equipped with a high-power LED for high functional reserve, ensuring reliable operation even in challenging conditions like dusty environments.

Usage Features:

  • Precision Positioning: Visible LASER light enables precise positioning and detection of small objects.
  • Enhanced Beam Visibility: The optical design maximizes linear propagation of laser beams, making optical axis adjustment easier. Class 1 red laser beams can be precisely aligned.
  • Reliable Detection: High functional reserve (60 m for Through-beam) ensures reliable operation even in dusty environments.
  • Small Spot for Small Objects: A small spot diameter (5 mm at 3 m for Through-beam and Retro-reflective, 0.5 mm at 300 mm for BGS) allows detection of small workpieces and minor level differences at long distances.
  • Longest Leeway: Retro-reflective models offer a 15 m sensing distance with an E39-R1S Reflector, providing the longest leeway in the industry.
  • Low Black/White Error: BGS models feature a black/white error as low as 5%, improving stability for applications with mixed colors.
  • Advanced Optical Technology: Laser beam directional deviation is suppressed, and spot diameters are customizable through high-precision alignment technology.
  • Fast Response Time: High-speed response models (0.5 ms) are available for fast-moving objects.
  • Easy Mounting: Can be easily mounted to aluminum frame rails of conveyors and adjusted for left-to-right alignment using specific mounting brackets.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Never use paint thinners or other organic solvents to clean the product surface.
  • Indicator Operation: The stability indicator (green) lights up when detection/no detection status is stable within the rated ambient operating temperature (10 to 55°C).
  • Connection: Always turn off power before connecting/disconnecting metal connectors. Hold the connector cover, not the cable, and secure it by hand (do not use pliers). Apply specified tightening torques for M8 (0.3 to 0.4 N·m) and M12 (0.4 to 0.5 N·m) connectors to prevent loosening and reduced protection.
  • Mounting Direction: For distance-settable models, ensure the sensing side is parallel to the object's surface. If the object is glossy, incline the sensor by 5° to 10° to avoid background interference. Avoid installing the sensor below mirror-like objects or incline it away from them.
  • Power Reset Time: The sensor is ready 100 ms after power-on. If the load and sensor have independent power supplies, turn on the sensor before the load.
  • Avoiding Malfunctions: When using with an inverter or servomotor, ground FG and G terminals to prevent malfunction.
  • Installation: Avoid mounting sensors face-to-face to prevent mutual interference. Install carefully to prevent direct exposure to intensive light (sunlight, fluorescent, incandescent). Do not strike the sensor during installation. Use M3 screws for mounting, with a tightening torque not exceeding 0.54 N-m for the case.
