First, ensure you haven't pressed the START/STOP button without the cuff applied; if so, turn the monitor off, securely insert the air plug, correctly apply the cuff, and try again. Secondly, check that the air plug is fully inserted into the monitor. Also, make sure the arm cuff is applied correctly. Finally, if air is leaking from the cuff, it may need replacement.
