  • Safety Warnings:
    • Users must read, understand, and follow all instructions to prevent serious injury or death.
    • Do not exceed the maximum load capacity (500 lbs / 226 kg), including paddlers and gear, as this can affect stability and handling. Loads should be evenly distributed with heavier items on the bottom.
    • Consult a physician before kayaking to ensure physical fitness.
    • Obtain training from a qualified instructor.
    • Always check weather and water conditions.
    • Strictly follow assembly instructions.
    • Inspect the kayak and all equipment before each use for wear or damage.
    • Familiarize yourself with the body of water.
    • Abide by all US Coast Guard regulations and state/local laws.
    • Prepare a float plan and inform others of your itinerary.
    • Obtain certified first aid and rescue training.
    • Always wear a US Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD).
    • Dress appropriately for weather conditions; wear a wetsuit/drysuit in cold water to prevent hypothermia.
    • Carry an approved helmet when necessary.
    • Carry first aid equipment and an audible signal device (horn/whistle).
    • Use only compatible accessories.
    • Stow all equipment securely.
    • NEVER paddle alone.
    • Avoid hazardous conditions like flooding, tidal changes, large waves, fast-moving currents, and high surf.
    • Never allow minors to use the kayak without adult supervision.
    • Do not use alcohol or drugs while operating the kayak.
    • Honestly assess your physical strength, endurance, and paddling skills.
    • Scout unfamiliar waters and portage to avoid unsafe conditions.
    • Enter the kayak from a dock or where it's floating to minimize abrasion; avoid dragging on sharp surfaces.
    • Use water displacement devices on open water.
    • Do not use or fold the kayak in temperatures below freezing (32°F/0°C) as the plastic hull can become brittle and crack.
  • Kayaking 101: Provides basic tips for entering and exiting the kayak (solo and tandem) from high docks, low docks/platforms, and beaches. It also covers proper sitting posture, paddle selection based on height, and basic paddling techniques (forward and reverse strokes).
  • Maneuvering: Explains rudder turns and sweep-stroke turns.
  • Rescues: Recommends professional instruction for open water rescues. Highlights the importance of float bags for buoyancy after a capsize and emphasizes always wearing a PFD and never kayaking alone. Describes the "wet exit" procedure and mentions the "T-rescue" (with an additional kayak).
