3. Handling
3.1 Pelvic socket fabrication
CAUTION
Risk of falling due to incorrect lamination of the lamination plate. Proper lamination tech-
nique is necessary to guarantee stability and comfort for the user. It is particularly important
that the lamination plate is sufciently reinforced with carbon-bre cloth and breglass matting.
CAUTION
Risk of health impairment when processing breglass. Fibreglass can irritate the eyes,
respiratory tract and skin. Where appropriate, use a particle lter mask or exhaust equipment.
3.1.1 Preparatory work
Drill three evacuation ducts into the plaster positive to ensure intimate t.
Align the lamination plate on the plaster positive, shorten as necessary and round the edges.
If there is large tissue loss on the residual limb, or in case of hemipelvectomy, rst restore sym-
metry by using Pedilen® rigid foam.
Pull over the form-weld inner bag and evacuate.
Manufacture the external bag with pouring hole located on the side of the residual limb.
Cut off the lling hoses for the hard/soft lamination technique.
3.1.2 Reinforcement of the pelvic socket and lamination plate
The following reinforcement material shall be used depending on the type of loading expected:
623T3 Perlon Stockinette (10-12 layers)
616G12 Carbon Fibre Cloth (2 - 4 layers)
616G4 Fibreglass Mat (2 layers)
The following working steps are necessary:
Cut a length of Perlon stockinette twice as long as the plaster positive, pull over the plaster
positive, twist on the non-amputated side and reect.
Pull over 2 other Perlon layers.
Reinforce the socket in the seat area with carbon bre cloth and breglass mat.
Close the threaded holes in the lamination plate with 636K8 Plastaband.
Interweave 699B1 Fibreglass Roving through the lamination plate holes.
Align the lamination plate to the marking on the plaster positive and apply breglass mat and
carbon bre cloth.
Complete the reinforcement with Perlon stockinette while inserting the lling hoses, Trolene
separation ap and threaded plates.
Pull the external bag over the reinforced plaster positive and thread the lling hoses through
the pouring hole.
