Overview

The Ozito Electric Chainsaw (model ECS-1935) is a powerful tool designed for DIY use, primarily for cutting wood. It features a robust 1900W motor and a 356mm (14") bar, capable of a maximum cutting length of 325mm. The chain operates at a speed of 15.5m/s, ensuring efficient cutting. For continuous operation, it includes a 160ml oil tank for automatic chain lubrication and has a noise rating of 108dB. Weighing 4.8kg, it is designed for domestic use and comes with a 3-year replacement warranty, excluding consumable parts like the guide bar, chain, and included accessories.

Function Description:

The electric chainsaw is used for various wood-cutting tasks, including felling small trees, limbing (removing branches from a fallen tree), bucking (cutting logs into lengths), and pruning (removing limbs or branches from a standing tree). Its design prioritizes user safety and ease of operation, incorporating features like a chain brake, cord retainer, and clear instructions for chain tensioning and lubrication.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Motor Power: 1900W
  • Bar Length: 356mm (14")
  • Maximum Cutting Length: 325mm
  • Chain Speed: 15.5m/s
  • Oil Tank Capacity: 160ml
  • Noise Rating: 108dB
  • Weight: 4.8kg
  • Chain Pitch: 9.53mm (3/8")
  • Chain Gauge: 1.3mm (.050")
  • Chain Drive Links: 52
  • Chain File Size: 3.96mm (5/32")
  • Power Supply: 230V/240V (interchangeable for Australia and New Zealand)
  • Insulation: Double insulated (no earth wire required)
  • Safety Device Recommendation: Residual Current Device (RCD) rated at 30mA or less.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The guide bar and chain are fitted by first unscrewing the side cover lock, removing the side cover, placing the chain over the guide bar (ensuring cutters face the direction of rotation), positioning the guide bar and chain, and then securing the side cover. The chain tensioning pin must fit into the guide bar, and the chain should be closely seated around the sprocket.
  • Chain Tensioning: The chain tension is adjusted using a dial. Rotating it downwards increases tension, and upwards decreases it. Correct tension allows the chain to be pulled 3mm away from the guide bar with a finger and thumb. Over-tightening is discouraged as it reduces chain and guide bar life. The chain should be adjusted before first use, after 2-3 minutes of operation, and every 30 minutes thereafter.
  • Lubrication: The chainsaw features an automatic oiler system. It requires "chain bar oil" and has a 160ml oil tank. The oil tank should be filled slowly using a funnel to prevent spillage and to avoid overfilling. The oil level window allows users to monitor oil levels, and the tank should be refilled when the level falls below the minimum mark. A lubrication system check can be performed by holding the chainsaw above light-colored paper; a steady oil spray indicates proper function.
  • Cord Retainer: An integrated cord retainer secures an extension lead, preventing accidental disconnection during use. Users should make a loop in the extension lead, pass it through the handle, and hook it over the retainer.
  • Chain Brake: This critical safety feature operates automatically in the event of kickback, stopping the chain within a tenth of a second. It can also be engaged manually by pushing it forward. Users are advised to regularly check its operation and never use the chainsaw if the chain brake is not working properly.
  • Switching On/Off: To start, the hand guard/chain brake must be pulled towards the user (disengaged). The front handle is held with the left hand, and the rear handle with the right. The lock-off switch is pushed in with the thumb, and the on/off trigger is squeezed. Releasing the trigger stops the chainsaw.
  • Cutting Techniques:
    • General: Press bucking spikes against timber before cutting, ensuring the chain doesn't contact the material. Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands. Apply light pressure and run the motor at full speed for safer operation.
    • Felling a Tree: Requires trained operators. Consider wind direction, branch position, tree lean, and ease of subsequent limbing/bucking to determine the felling direction. Involves a notch cut and a felling cut.
    • Limbing: Remove branches from a fallen tree. Cut on the opposite side of the branch's bend to prevent pinching. For large limbs, make an initial cut from the bent side and finish from the opposite direction. Do not remove supporting limbs until the tree is cut into lengths.
    • Bucking: Cutting logs into lengths. For logs on the ground, saw halfway, then roll and cut from the opposite side. For logs supported off the ground, saw up from the bottom one-third, then down from the top. For logs supported at both ends, saw down from the top one-third, then up from the bottom.
    • Pruning: Removing limbs from a standing tree. Avoid unstable footing, ladders, or overreaching. Do not saw above shoulder height. Always use both hands, cutting up from the bottom and finishing down from the top.
  • Kickback Prevention: Kickback occurs when the guide bar tip touches an object or when wood pinches the chain. To prevent this, maintain a firm grip, avoid overreaching, do not cut above shoulder height, and use only manufacturer-specified replacement bars and chains.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning & Storing: Keep handles free of grease and oil. Clean the device with a damp cloth and mild washing-up liquid. For extended storage, drain chain bar oil from the tank, immerse the chain and guide bar in an oil bath, and wrap them in oil paper before storing in the guide bar cover.
  • Chain Tension: Regular checks and adjustments are crucial.
  • Guide Bar Maintenance:
    • Reverse the bar every 8 working hours for uniform wear.
    • Keep the bar groove and lubrication hole clean.
    • Check bar rails for wear and remove burs using a flat file.
    • Clean oil passages to ensure proper lubrication.
    • Grease the nose sprocket at the guide bar tip.
    • If the tool is unused for an extended period, drain the oil and refill before use.
  • Chain Sharpening: Sharpen the chain regularly to maintain performance. Signs of a dull chain include powdery sawdust, increased cutting force, crooked cuts, and increased vibration. Use a 3.96mm (5/32") chain file, making outward strokes at a 30° angle between the chain and file. All cutters must have the same width and length after sharpening. Professional sharpening is recommended every 3-4 uses to ensure correct cutting angles and depths.

Warranty Information:

The product is covered by a 3-year replacement warranty from the original date of purchase for DIY domestic use. The warranty is void if the tool is operated on an incorrect voltage, shows signs of abuse, accidents, or alterations, lacks proper maintenance, is disassembled or tampered with, or is used for professional, industrial, or high-frequency tasks. To make a claim, the product must be returned to a Bunnings Warehouse with the register receipt.
