Overview

This document provides operating instructions for Panasonic OLED TVs, specifically models TH-48LZ980Z, TH-55LZ980Z, and TH-65LZ980Z. It covers various aspects from initial setup and connections to advanced features, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Panasonic OLED TV is a smart television designed for indoor use, offering a high-quality viewing experience with features like 4K/HDR compatibility, VRR/AMD FreeSync™ Premium for smoother gaming, and Dolby Atmos for immersive sound. It supports internet apps and voice control functions, which may vary by service provider and region. The TV incorporates built-in wireless LAN (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands) and Bluetooth® wireless technology for connectivity with various devices, including remote controls, audio devices, and other peripherals. It also includes a USB HDD recording function, allowing users to record content. The TV is designed to operate on AC 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz.

Usage Features

Initial Setup and Tuning: Upon first use, the TV guides users through an auto-tuning process to set up channels and network connections. It offers options to select the viewing environment (Home or Shop) and region. The built-in [eHELP] system provides detailed operating instructions and troubleshooting guides, accessible via the menu bar.

Connectivity: The TV offers multiple connection terminals, including HDMI ports (HDMI 1-4) supporting 4K120Hz, VRR, AMD FreeSync™ Premium, Deep Colour, and x.v.Colour™. HDMI 2 also supports eARC/ARC for enhanced audio return. It has USB ports (USB 1, 2, 3) for connecting USB HDDs and other devices, an Ethernet terminal for wired network connection, and aerial/satellite inputs. An AV IN terminal allows connection to older video equipment like DVD players or camcorders using an AV adaptor. The headphone/subwoofer jack allows for external audio output. VIERA Link (HDAVI Control™) is supported via HDMI 1-4 for integrated control of compatible Panasonic devices.

Picture and Sound: The TV is capable of reproducing images with expanded color gamut and high frame rates when connected to 4K compatible equipment. Users can adjust HDMI Auto Setting modes (Mode1, Mode2, Mode3) to optimize compatibility and picture quality. For gaming, VRR/AMD FreeSync™ Premium can be enabled in the Picture > Option Settings. The TV's ambient sensor automatically adjusts picture settings like [Auto Brightness] and [Auto White Balance] based on ambient lighting conditions. For multi-channel sound, external amplifiers can be connected.

Remote Control and Voice Control: The supplied remote control uses both Bluetooth® wireless technology and infrared communication. For voice controls, the remote needs to be registered (paired) with the TV. Voice control allows users to change channels, adjust volume, and perform internet searches by speaking into the microphone. The TV needs to be connected to the internet for search functions.

Safety and Installation: The TV should be installed in an upright position and moved by at least two people to prevent injury. It is recommended to secure the TV to furniture using fall-prevention parts to prevent tipping. Adequate ventilation (at least 10 cm clearance) around the TV is crucial to prevent overheating. The manual provides detailed instructions for assembling the pedestal and attaching cable covers to manage cables neatly. For wall-hanging installations, it is advised to contact a local Panasonic dealer to purchase and install the recommended bracket.

Maintenance Features

Display Panel, Cabinet, and Pedestal: Regular care involves gently wiping surfaces with a soft cloth to remove dirt and fingerprints. For stubborn dirt, a soft cloth dampened with clean water or diluted neutral detergent (1 part detergent to 100 parts water) can be used, ensuring the cloth is firmly wrung out to prevent liquid from entering the TV. After cleaning, all moisture should be wiped away. Harsh cloths, excessive rubbing, insect repellents, solvents, thinners, or volatile substances should be avoided as they can damage the surface quality or paint. The display panel is specially treated and can be easily damaged, so care should be taken not to tap or scratch it with hard objects. Prolonged contact between the cabinet/pedestal and rubber or PVC substances should also be avoided.

Mains Plug: The mains plug should be wiped with a dry cloth at regular intervals to prevent fire or electrical shock caused by moisture and dust.

Panel Maintenance: The TV performs automatic panel maintenance, which takes approximately 10 minutes. During this process, the LED turns orange. If the TV is turned on/off before maintenance is completed, the LED may turn orange again in standby mode. It is important to avoid touching or exerting pressure on the screen during panel maintenance.

Troubleshooting and Self-Test: The TV has a built-in Self Test function to diagnose picture or sound problems. If issues persist, users are advised to initialise all settings via [Shipping Condition] in the [System Menu]. The [eHELP] system provides FAQs and solutions for common problems like the TV not switching on, remote control not working, or no image being displayed. It also offers guidance on checking cable connections, input modes, and picture settings.

General Precautions: To prevent image retention on the OLED screen, avoid displaying still images for long periods. The screen saver may activate, or on-screen messages may move if no signals are sent or operations are performed. Setting [Logo Luminance Control] to [Max] is recommended. The screen may dim with motionless images, which is not a malfunction. The TV should be turned off with the remote control to ensure panel maintenance is performed. The mains plug should be removed from the wall socket when the TV is not in use for a prolonged period. Batteries for the remote control should be replaced with the same or equivalent type, not mixed with old/new or different types, and kept out of reach of children.
