Do you have a question about the Panasonic VL-W1 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Panasonic VL-W1 series is a laser processing machine designed for industrial indoor environments, utilizing a fiber laser with a wavelength of 1070nm. It is available in several models: VL-W1500, VL-W1A00, VL-W1506, and VL-W1A06. The model designation indicates the laser output class (50 for 45W, A0 for 90W) and the working field size (0 for 200mm x 200mm, 6 for 400mm x 400mm).

Function Description:

The VL-W1 series machine processes materials by lasing. It consists of a head unit that radiates the laser beam, a controller that stores setting data and controls operation, and various connecting cables. An optional touch panel console or a commercially available monitor and mouse can be connected for setting drawing data and other lasing parameters, and for monitoring operations. The machine supports both manual screen operation and external control via I/O signals or serial communication commands (RS-232C/Ethernet). It includes a guide laser for visual positioning and a laser power monitoring function to measure output power and energy during operation.

Usage Features:

The machine can be operated in two main modes:

  • Manual Setting (Screen Operation): Allows for "Test lasing" to check results and adjust parameters, and "Run mode" for configuring settings and controlling lasing start signals from external devices. The operation monitor displays the working image, while the I/O monitor shows the ON/OFF state of I/O. An error log is also available.
  • External Control (Remote Mode): Enables automatic control via I/O signals or serial communication commands (RS-232C/Ethernet) from external devices like PLCs. This mode is suitable for integrating the laser processing machine into larger automated systems. DIP switches on the rear of the controller allow selection of control methods and remote mode settings.

The output beam diameter can be adjusted optically using a control dial on the head, which is useful for fine-tuning laser processing quality. The guide laser provides a visual indication of the working field and work distance, aiding in precise positioning of the target object.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity. Key maintenance items include:

  • Protection Glass of Laser Emission Port: Requires daily cleaning with an air duster for optics and a soft cloth, or ethanol for severe contamination. Replacement is needed if quality deteriorates or if contamination/scratches cannot be removed. A protection glass fitting tool is provided for replacement.
  • Air Filter (Controller): Requires regular cleaning and replacement if damaged or heavily contaminated to maintain cooling efficiency.
  • Air-cooling Fan and Intake Vent (Controller): Requires regular cleaning with a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and dirt, preventing performance degradation and potential failures.
  • Gasket: O-rings in the fiber unit connection and output beam diameter control cover connection parts need replacement if signs of deterioration or damage are observed.
  • Laser Oscillator: The laser oscillator's output characteristics can deteriorate over time. Replacement is necessary if processing quality degrades significantly (e.g., 20% decrease in laser power) or if the total radiation time exceeds 30,000 hours. Operating hours can be checked via the "System info" screen.
  • Galvano Scanner: Deterioration can lead to misalignment or uneven drawing lines. Replacement is recommended if processing quality is affected or after approximately five years of use.
  • Internal Shutter: The internal shutter opens and closes to control the laser beam path. Replacement is needed if the opening/closing speed decreases, if it fails to operate, or if the total number of operations exceeds two million. The number of operations can be checked via the "System info" screen.
  • Battery Inside the Controller: A lithium primary battery maintains the internal clock. Replacement is required if the clock loses synchronization when the machine is off, typically after about five years.
  • Fuse: The controller's fuse needs replacement if it blows, preventing the machine from powering on.

The machine also supports obtaining backup data of registered settings and drawing files to a USB memory, which is useful for system restoration or transfer to other machines. Troubleshooting guides are provided for common issues related to startup, laser pumping, display/configuration, lasing operation, lasing quality, external control, and error indications.
