This document serves as a user manual for the Parker Hyperchill pC05 (60Hz) series of water coolers, specifically models PCW420, PCW510, and PCW650. It provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of these units.

Function Description:

The Hyperchill pC05 units are monoblock water coolers designed to produce cooled water in a closed circuit. They are equipped with fan, pump, and compressor motors, all protected by thermal protectors to prevent overheating. These chillers are available in air-cooled (axial fan) and water-cooled versions. The water-cooled versions require a water circuit to supply cold water to the condenser and are fitted with a pressure regulating valve at the condenser inlet to optimize condensation.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual outlines various technical specifications crucial for operation. For the water circuit, recommended inlet water characteristics include a temperature range of ≥50°F (10°C) with an AT IN/OUT of 5-15°C. The maximum glycol percentage is 50%. Pressure should be between 43.5-145 PSIg (3-10 barg), pH between 7.5-9, and electrical conductivity between 10-500 µS/cm. Specific limits are provided for various chemical components: CL- (<50 ppm), CaCO3 (70-150 ppm), O2 (<0.1 ppm), Fe (<0.2 ppm), NO3 (<2 ppm), HCO3- (70-300 ppm), H2S (<0.05 ppm), CO2 (<5 ppm), and Al (<0.2 ppm). Special water types like demineralized, deionized, or distilled water may require different condenser materials.

Electrical specifications include a power supply voltage and frequency that must correspond to the chiller nameplate, with tolerances of +/- 10% for voltage and +/- 1% for frequency. The power supply must be symmetrical with a maximum permissible voltage imbalance of 2%. A 4-wire cable (3 phase conductors and an earth conductor, no neutral) is required for connection. The supply cable needs protection against direct contact (at least IP2X or IPXXB) and a residual-current circuit breaker with a trip rating of 0.3A. The nominal current (In) of the magnetic circuit breaker should equal the FLA with an intervention curve type D, and the maximum grid impedance value is 0.274 ohm.

Refrigerant used is R407C (HFC), a colourless gas classified in SAFETY GROUP A1 - EN378 (group 2 fluid), with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1774. Refrigerant charge for PCW420 is 39.7 lb (2x18 Kg), for PCW510 is 41.3 lb (2x19 Kg), and for PCW650 is 44 lb (2x20 Kg).

Usage Features:

The chiller's control panel allows users to monitor and adjust various parameters. The main isolator switch (P0) turns the unit ON/OFF. The display (P1) shows alarms and allows for buzzer deactivation and alarm resets. P2 enables access to the parameter menu, P3 cancels operations, P4 and P5 adjust parameter values, and P6 confirms selections or shifts the cursor.

Starting the chiller involves ensuring the crankcase heater is activated 24 hours prior (for FL2 option) to prevent compressor damage. The chiller is factory-set to a default temperature of 45°F (7°C) with a differential of 7.2°F (4°C), which can be adjusted. Proper pump operation must be verified using pressure gauges and checking against pump data plate values. The hydraulic circuit must be topped up to the "SET" temperature.

For outdoor or unheated indoor installations, antifreeze protection is crucial. This can be achieved by equipping the chiller with antifreeze devices, draining the system during prolonged idle periods, or adding ethylene glycol to the circulating water. An expansion tank of suitable capacity must be installed to manage fluid volume changes due to temperature variations.

The chiller includes a general alarm system with a switching free contact for external alarm connections (audible, visual, or PLC input). Remote ON/OFF control is also possible.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is essential for ensuring maximum chiller efficiency and reliability.

Every 4 months: Clean condenser fins and verify compressor electrical absorption is within dataplate values.
Yearly (W version): Introduce and circulate a specific detergent liquid to address encrustations inside the condenser.
Every 3 years: Install a maintenance kit.
General instructions: Always disconnect power before maintenance. Use only original Parker spare parts.
Refrigerant: Any refrigerant leakage requires contacting qualified and authorized personnel. Incorrect charging by unauthorized personnel will void the warranty. In case of leakage, ventilate the room.
Dismantling: Refrigerant and lubricating oil must be recovered according to local environmental regulations before final scrapping. Components should be separated for recycling: steel/epoxy resin polyester for frame and panels, copper/aluminium/carbon steel for pipes/collectors, NBR rubber for pipe insulation, steel/copper/aluminium/oil for compressors, steel/copper/aluminium for condensers, aluminium for fans, R407C (HFC) for refrigerant, brass/copper for valves, and copper/PVC for electrical cables. Electrical components must be disposed of separately as electronic waste.

The manual also provides a troubleshooting guide with flowcharts to identify faults, their causes, and remedies, covering issues like high outlet water temperature, compressor stops, insufficient water flow, and noisy compressor operation.
