This document describes the Patriot Lighting Dual Head Security Light (Model Numbers: E1205-WH, E1205-BZ), a motion-sensing light fixture designed for outdoor use.
Function Description
The Dual Head Security Light is designed to provide illumination when motion is detected, enhancing security around your property. It features two adjustable light heads and an integrated motion sensor. The light can be wall-mounted or eave-mounted, with specific instructions for eave mounting to ensure proper sensor operation and prevent electrical shock.
The core functionality revolves around its motion sensor and photocell. The motion sensor automatically turns the light ON when motion is detected. Depending on the selected mode, the light will either turn on to a high level of brightness (5000K) or a lower level (2700K) and then return to a lower level or turn OFF automatically when motion stops. The integrated photocell ensures that the light remains OFF during daylight hours to conserve energy.
The device offers several operational modes:
- TEST MODE: This mode allows for testing the motion sensor during both daytime and nighttime. The light turns to high-level brightness (5000K) upon motion detection and stays on as long as motion continues. After motion stops, it reverts to 2700K CCT Color and a low-level brightness (0-50%) after approximately 5 seconds.
- AUTO MODE: Designed for nighttime operation, this mode turns the light on to a pre-selected low-level brightness (2700K) at dusk. When motion is detected, it switches to high-level brightness (5000K) and remains on for a predetermined time (30s/1min/3min) before returning to the pre-selected low-level brightness. The light turns off automatically at dawn.
- PC MODE: In this mode, the light turns on at full brightness (5000K) at dusk and remains on until dawn, without motion detection.
- 3 HOURS (3H) MODE: This mode turns the light on to high-level brightness (5000K) at dusk and stays on for 3 hours. After 3 hours, it switches to a pre-selected low-level brightness (2700K). If motion is detected during this period, it turns to high-level brightness (5000K) and stays on for the set shut-off delay time (30s/1min/3min) before returning to the pre-selected low-level brightness. The light turns off automatically at dawn.
- CUSTOM MODE: This mode allows for setting the light to turn on to full brightness (2700K) at dusk and off at dawn automatically. It also enables setting the motion sensor operation to go on at a specific time. For example, a homeowner can set the light to stay on high-level brightness from dusk to 8 pm and then switch to AUTO motion sensor mode. This is achieved by turning the wall switch OFF and ON twice within 3 seconds. To revert to default, the wall switch should be turned OFF and then ON after 5 seconds.
The light fixture also supports RF Linking, allowing up to 10 units to be linked together within 120 feet. When linked, these units can send and receive photo sensor or motion sensor signals from other lights in the group, responding accordingly. This means that if one linked light detects motion or ambient brightness changes, other linked lights can also activate or deactivate.
Usage Features
The Dual Head Security Light offers several adjustable features to customize its performance:
- Adjustable Light Heads: The two light heads (B) can be tilted up or down, left or right to adjust the light coverage area. It is recommended to keep them at least 1 inch (25mm) away from the sensor and 30° below horizontal to prevent water damage and electrical shock.
- Motion Sensor Sensitivity: The "Sens" selector on the bottom surface of the sensor allows adjustment of sensitivity to HIGH (H), MEDIUM (M), or LOW (L). Approximate detection ranges are 30 ft. (L), 50 ft. (M), and 70 ft. (H). The sensor detects movement across a 240-degree range and is more sensitive to motion across its detection path than directly towards it.
- Shut-off Delay (TIME): In AUTO and 3H modes, the "TIME" switch allows setting the duration the light stays on after motion is detected to 30s, 1min, or 3min.
- Low-Level Brightness Adjustment: A knob on the backplate (See Fig.6) allows adjustment of the low-level brightness from 0% to 50% in AUTO and 3H modes.
- Manual Override: For temporary continuous high-level brightness at night, the wall switch can be turned OFF and ON twice within 3 seconds. The light will then remain on all night. To revert to AUTO or 3H mode, repeat the OFF-ON sequence twice within 3 seconds. When light units are linked, the Manual Override action is also linked if MODE settings are in Auto or 3H.
- Installation Flexibility: The fixture can be wall-mounted or eave-mounted. For eave mounting, the sensor head must be rotated 180° clockwise so the controls face down, ensuring proper operation and avoiding electrical shock.
- Optimal Installation Height: For best performance, the fixture should be installed at least 8 feet above the ground, providing a detection distance of up to 70 feet at 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
Maintenance Features
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the Dual Head Security Light, the following maintenance practices are recommended:
- Cleaning: To prolong the original appearance, clean the light fixture with clear water and a soft, damp cloth only.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use paints, solvents, or other chemicals on the light fixture, as they can cause premature deterioration of the finish and will not be covered by the warranty.
- Sensor Lens Cleaning: For best performance, gently clean the sensor lens with a soft cloth every 1 or 2 months to ensure maximum sensitivity.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the light not coming on, coming on during the day, coming on for no apparent reason, turning off too late, staying on continuously, or flashing on and off. Solutions range from checking the power supply and wiring to adjusting sensor settings and repositioning the fixture or lamp heads.
- Professional Consultation: If issues cannot be resolved using the troubleshooting guide, it is recommended to consult a certified electrician.
- Spare Parts: The manual includes a list of available spare parts (Mounting Screw, Mounting Strap, Wire Connector, Decorative Cover, Fixture Mounting Screw, Gasket) that can be reordered if damaged or missing by calling customer service.
