Another reason could be that there's no available space on the SD Memory Card or in the built-in memory. Try inserting an SD Memory Card with available space or deleting unwanted images. Finally, the camera may be recording something. Wait until recording is finished.

If you're having trouble focusing with your Pentax Digital Camera, it could be due to the subject being difficult to focus on with autofocus. You can lock focus on another object at the same distance by pressing the shutter release button halfway, then aim at your target and press the button fully, or use Manual Focus mode. Also, make sure the subject is within the focusing area. Position the subject in the focus frame in the middle of the LCD monitor. If it's outside this area, aim the camera, lock the focus (press halfway), then recompose and press fully.
