Many foreign stations si gn off or announce in th e ir owB la nguag e and afterward s

English, for th e benefit of American and English listeners. In cases where you do
not hear them si gn off, you ma y be able to tell by their f requency (megacycle number
on dial) , th e l anguage used, or type of pro gram, just wha t shor t-wave stat i on you
have tuned in. You will find that once yo u have heard a s tation a few times , you will

ead ily recognize it when you tune it in. A little practice wi ll make yo u proficient in
the art e>£ s hort -wave tuning.
