Silencing, Acknowledging, and Pausing Alarms
Silencing, Acknowledging, and Pausing Alarms
You can silence alarms in the following ways:
• Use the Acknowledge Alarm button to acknowledge and silence active alarms.
• Use the Audio Pause button to temporarily silence all alarms, including active alarms.
• If enabled by your system administrator, turn off all alarm audio for the current
patient session. This is available only for Spot Check monitoring mode—and for
Alarms Off mode, if configured. See “Alarms Off Mode” on page 4-16 for more
information.
The Acknowledge Alarm Button
Note
Measurements can be either continuous or aperiodic. Continuous measurements include
SpO
2
, RRa™, pulse rate derived from SpO
2
, CO
2
(awRR, etCO
2
, IPI, imCO
2
), and
monitored mode predictive temperature. Aperiodic measurements include NBP, pulse
rate derived from NBP, predictive mode predictive temperature, and temporal
temperature. The Acknowledge Alarm button responds differently depending on which
type of measurement is alarming.
The Acknowledge Alarm button at the upper right of the main screen is dim when there
is no active alarm.
During an active alarm, the following occurs:
• The Acknowledge Alarm button flashes, alternating between bright and dim amber.
• An alarm message appears in the message pane of the information bar
• If the alarm is a physiological alarm, the relevant numeric pane turns amber and
flashes.
• The appropriate alarm tone is played, unless alarm audio has been disabled either for
the relevant measurement or globally.
Touch the amber Acknowledge Alarm button to acknowledge and silence all currently
active alarms.
The result of touching the Acknowledge Alarm button differs depending on whether the
active alarm is for a continuous or aperiodic physiological measurement, or for a
technical alarm condition:
• For continuously monitored measurements, the following occurs:
- The Acknowledge Alarm button changes to an Alarm Acknowledged button,
and the other visual alarm indicators continue.
- If the alarm condition is not resolved within 60 seconds, the Alarm
Acknowledged button reverts to an Acknowledge Alarm button and alarm audio
resumes based on the established alarm priority rules.
• For aperiodic measurements, the alarm is acknowledged and both the auditory and
visual alarms are dismissed.
