Testing Alarms
Acknowledging Technical Alarms
Technical alarms alert you to equipment failure and/or a loss of monitoring.
For a description of the technical alarm messages, see Appendix A, “Alarm Specifications.
When a technical alarm occurs and you touch the Acknowledge Alarm button once, the
monitor responds in one of the following ways:
For SpO
2
technical alarms (such as SpO2 No Sensor) and a Low Batt alarm, the
auditory alarm is silenced and visual alarm indicators continue to flash until the error
condition is corrected.
For NBP technical alarms (such as NBP Loose Cuff) and temperature technical
alarms (such as Temp Probe Error), the auditory alarm is silenced and visual alarm
indicators are cleared.
For an Extreme Low Batt, the auditory alarm is silenced and visual alarm indicators
continue to flash. The auditory alarm resumes after 60 seconds.
Testing Alarms
To verify that the auditory alarm system is working
1 With the monitor turned on, ensure that the monitor is not in Audio Pause or Audio
Off mode.
2 Ensure that the NBP alarm is enabled. In other words, check that the audio paused or
Audio Off icon is not displayed in the NPB numeric pane.
3 Connect the NBP hose to the NBP input connector, but do not place the cuff on your
arm.
4 Touch the Start NBP button in the NBP numeric pane.
5 Wait for the NBP module to cycle and check that an NBP alarm message appears and
an alarm tone sounds.
6 If you do not get the results described in step 5, contact your biomedical engineer or
service department.
Nurse Call System Alarms
A nurse call signal reflects the audio output of the monitor: if the monitor sounds an
alarm, the nurse call system also signals an alarm.
If your monitor is connected to a nurse call system, note the following:
When you silence an alarm by touching the Acknowledge Alarm button. the nurse
call system no longer signals for that alarm condition.
If you touch the Audio Pause button, the nurse call signal is also paused.
If you disable one or more alarms (through a specific measurement menu or the
Alarm Settings menu), these alarms are also disabled in the nurse call system.
Your system administrator can change the minimum alarm priority level for the nurse
call signal. For example, if the minimum alarm priority level is set to high, only high
priority alarms will sound on the nurse call system. If it is set to medium, both high
and medium priority alarms will sound on the nurse call system.
