Taking Automatic NBP Measurements Using NBP Intervals
Taking Automatic NBP Measurements Using NBP Intervals
In Interval and Continuous monitoring modes, you can trigger automatic NBP
measurements at specified intervals. You can either select an automatic NBP interval that
continues indefinitely or use an NBP interval program that defines an NBP interval and a
specific duration:
• NBP Auto Interval — Specifies a time interval, such as every 15 minutes, at which the
monitor initiates an automatic NBP measurement on the current patient.
• NBP Interval Program — Specifies a sequence of up to five sequential periods of
automatic NBP measurement on the current patient. Each period comprises a
duration and an interval. The periods run sequentially. For example, for the first
period, you might specify that for a duration of an hour, a NBP measurement be
initiated every 15 minutes. For the second period you might specify that for a four
hour period, a measurement be initiated every 30 minutes. In this example, the first
period ends after the hour elapses, and second period begins automatically,
continuing for the next four hours. After each NBP measurement throughout the
program, the NBP values and all other available vital signs are saved to the patient
record.
Considerations
WARNING
Select the correct patient type for your patient. Do not apply the higher adult inflation limits and
measurement duration to neonatal patients. Patient injury may occur if adult inflation pressures are
used for pediatric or neonatal patients. Over-inflating the cuff may cause patient injury, patient
discomfort or inaccurate readings.
Caution
To prevent your NBP interval settings from being disabled, it is critical that you admit your patient
before setting an NBP auto interval or interval program. When you admit a new patient, any
previously configured NBP auto interval or interval program is canceled. Therefore, if you admit a
patient after setting the interval, automatic NBP measurements will not be taken unless you set the
interval again.
Note
Your system administrator can enable or disable any monitoring mode except Spot
Check. The Mode menu displays only the modes that are enabled. Spot Check is always
available.
Before starting NBP interval measurements, note the following:
• The patient must be admitted before configuring NBP intervals, because intervals are
canceled when a new patient is admitted.
