Taking Automatic NBP Measurements Using NBP Intervals
6-14 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
The monitor must be in Interval or Continuous monitoring mode in order to configure
and take NBP interval measurements.
When NBP interval measurements are being taken, an NBP measurement is not
started until the inflation pressure decreases to 15 mmHg for adult and pediatric
patients, or 5 mmHg for neonates. If deflation to this pressure takes longer than the
interval time, the next NBP measurement is skipped.
You can manually start an NBP measurement during an auto interval. For more
information, see “Manually Starting an NBP Measurement” on page 6-10.
If the QuickCapture feature is enabled, you can add observations and assessments
between intervals. See “Including Observations and Assessments in a Patient Record”
on page 3-27.
QuickNBP is not used for NBP auto interval or NBP interval program measurements,
even if your system administrator has enabled QuickNBP on your monitor.
If your system administrator configures a default NBP auto interval or interval
program, the monitor defaults to that interval or interval program when you enter
Interval or Continuous monitoring mode.
If your system administrator configures the monitor so that NBP interval
measurements are aligned with the monitor’s clock, the measurement interval adjusts
to the clock at the first opportunity. For example, if you set the interval to 10 minutes,
and you start the first measurement at 5:17, the monitor records the first
measurement at 5:17. The next NBP measurement will begin at 5:20, then 5:30, 5:40,
and so on. If the monitor is not configured to align measurements to the clock, the
measurements in the example above occur at 5:17, 5:27, 5:37, and so on.
If your monitor is networked and a time sychronization occurs in which the time
difference is greater than 30 seconds, the monitor starts a new NBP measurement.
Accessing NBP Interval Settings
To set an automatic NBP interval or configure an NBP interval program, you must be in
Interval or Continuous monitoring mode. To select a monitoring mode, touch the Mode
menu in the upper left of the main screen.
Caution
To prevent your NBP interval settings from being disabled, it is critical that you admit your patient
before setting an NBP auto interval or interval program. When you admit a new patient, any
previously configured NBP auto interval or interval program is canceled. Therefore, if you admit a
patient after setting the interval, automatic NBP measurements will not be taken unless you set the
interval again.
In Interval and Continuous monitoring modes, a Set Interval button appears below the
NBP numeric pane.
When you switch from another monitoring mode to Interval monitoring mode, the
Interval Settings menu appears. If you are already in Interval monitoring mode, you can
touch the Set Interval button to open the Interval Settings menu.
When you switch from another monitoring mode to Continuous monitoring mode, the
Continuous Settings menu appears. If you are already in Continuous monitoring mode,
you can touch the Set Interval button to open the Interval Settings menu.
