8-4 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
Taking an Infant Temperature Measurement
When taking a temporal temperature measurement on an infant, only one measurement
is required. The temporal artery area is the preferred site. However, if the temporal artery
area is covered, then you can take the measurement on the patient’s neck behind the
ear.
Before taking a measurement on an infant, note the following:
The temporal thermometer should be in the same temperature environment as the
baby for approximately 20 minutes before taking a measurement.
Make sure that the measurement site is exposed.
To take an infant’s temperature measurement
1 Remove the thermometer from the thermometer base.
2 Make sure that the lens is clean. If not, clean with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol,
and let dry.
3 Use one of the following methods to take a measurement:
- Temporal artery area: Gently position the probe flush on the center of the
patient’s forehead. Press and hold the Scan key, and slowly slide the
thermometer straight across the forehead, keeping the probe flat and in contact
with skin until you reach the hairline.
...or...
- Neck area: Press and hold the Scan key, and gently touch the probe to the neck
behind the ear.
4 Release the Scan key and remove the thermometer from the site.
The temperature is displayed on the thermometer and in the Temp numeric pane on
the monitor.
5 Replace the thermometer in the thermometer base.
