Connecting the Sampling Line
9-4 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
To connect the sampling line
1 Slide the input connector cover down to reveal the CO
2
input port.
2 Attach the sampling line luer connector to the CO
2
input port, and turn the sampling
line connector clockwise until it stops. This ensures that gas does not leak from the
connection point and that measurement accuracy is not compromised.
3 Make sure that the sampling line is not kinked.
WARNING
Check CO
2
and O
2
tubing regularly during use to ensure that no kinks are present. Kinked tubing may
cause inaccurate CO2 sampling or affect O
2
delivery to patient.
4 Check that CO2 values appear in the CO2 numeric pane on the monitor.
If you see a CO2 Purging alarm message, this indicates that the sampling line is being
purged to remove an occlusion in the line or airway adapter. When the occlusion is
removed, the message is cleared.
Note
When the system performs an auto zero, the following occurs:
The CO
2
Auto Zero message appears in the message area.
A question mark (-?-) appears in the CO2 numeric pane to indicate that CO
2
measurements are suspended during the Auto Zero period.
The CO
2
waveform goes to zero to indicate that CO
2
measurements are suspended
during the Auto Zero period.
Disconnect the sampling line during suctioning and nebulizing therapies.
Replace the sampling line according to hospital protocol or when a blockage is indicated
by the device. Excessive patient secretions or a buildup of liquids in the airway tubing
may occlude the sampling line, requiring more frequent replacement.
CO
2
values for non-intubated patients using Microstream™ accessories always tends to
be lower than for intubated patients. If values appear extremely low, check whether the
patient is breathing through the mouth or whether one nostril is blocked.
