Changing Pulse Settings
10-2 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
Changing the Pulse Rate Source
You can configure the monitor to derive the pulse rate value from SpO
2
or NBP, or
configure it to search automatically for an available source: SpO
2
first, then NBP. You can
also select Manual Input as the source for the pulse value.
In the Pulse pane on the main screen, the color of the pulse value indicates the source
for the pulse measurement.
If you select NBP as the pulse source, note the following:
• The pulse value derived from NBP is an averaged value.
• The displayed pulse value is static, which means that it displays the pulse value at
the time of the last NBP measurement. To determine the time at which the pulse rate
was measured, see the timestamp in the patient record.
• After a measurement completes, the pulse rate value is removed from the numeric
pane as when the record is saved or after 3 minutes, whichever comes first.
• When using QuickNBP or STAT NBP, no pulse rate is calculated. The Pulse numeric
pane displays a question mark (-?-) until the next time a standard NBP is taken.
WARNING
If your patient has a very low pulse rate or strong arrhythmia, pulse rate readings derived from SpO
2
may cause nuisance alarms. Use the perfusion indicator to assess signal quality. If necessary, use a
different method to measure the patient’s pulse rate.
If you select Manual Input as the source, the following occurs:
• A new field, named Input Pulse Measurement, appears on the Pulse menu, enabling
you to manually enter the pulse value.
• The Pulse Tone Volume and alarm limits fields disappear from the Pulse menu.
• The Alarm Audio On/Off button disappears from the Pulse menu.
• In the Pulse numeric pane:
- The No Alarm icon is displayed to indicate that no visual or auditory alarm
indicators will be triggered for pulse.
- The phrase Manual Input is displayed to indicate that the pulse value is sourced
from manual input.
- The measurement value appears in gray.
