EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use 3-1

Working with Patients and Patient
Records
This chapter describes how to admit a patient to the monitor, save vital signs
measurements to a patient record, and manage patient information and patient records.
It includes information about:
• Admitting a patient and saving vital signs to the patient record in Spot Check, Interval,
and Continuous monitoring modes.
• Editing patient records before reviewing and exporting.
• Deleting patient records.
• Entering patient observations and assessments.
• Validating patient records (if the QuickCheck feature is configured to require
validation).
The VS30 monitor can store and display up to 1,000 records. By default, records are
displayed in reverse chronological order: the newest record appears at the top of the list
and the oldest record at the bottom. When 1,000 records are stored in the database,
adding a new record deletes the oldest entry from the database.
Patient records are stored as local persistent data. If the monitor is connected to an EMR
system and/or to IntelliVue GuardianSoftware (IGS), records are exported according to
how your monitor is configured. The monitor checks every 30 seconds for new records to
export. See “Attended and Unattended Patient Records” on page 3-27 and “Validating
Patient Records before Export” on page 3-38 for more information.
Note
For data security purposes, your system administrator can configure the monitor to
handle successfully exported records in one of the following ways:
• Records remain visible in the Records menu for a configured interval of 1 to 5 minutes
after they are successfully exported. After this time, the records are hidden, but not
deleted. Hidden records can be viewed again only if your system administrator
disables the Hide Exported Patient Records option.
• Records are deleted from the monitor within a configured time interval of 1 to 12
hours after they have been successfully exported. These records cannot be viewed
again on the monitor. They may remain accessible on the system to which they have
been exported.
Check with your system administrator to learn which option has been configured, and
what the time interval is.
