Managing Patient Information
3-4 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
Note
The expanded patient bar automatically collapses to the original view after 90 seconds
of inactivity.
New Patient Menu
The New Patient Menu enables you to enter patient information either manually or by
scanning patient barcodes. See “Starting a New Patient Record” on page 3-18.
Caution
If your patient records are exported over a wired or wireless network, you must enter a patient ID
and any additional information required by your facility.
To open the New Patient Menu, scan the patient’s barcode wrist band or touch the
Admit button.
Using a Barcode Scanner to Open the New Patient Menu
Scanning a patient’s wrist band automatically opens the New Patient Menu. The VS30
then uses the barcodes to populate the patient information fields on the menu. See
“Using a Barcode Scanner” on page 3-13 for additional details.
You can scan a new patient's barcode to open the New Patient Menu even while the
previous patient is still admitted. When you finish entering patient information and touch
OK, the following occurs:
In Spot Check monitoring mode, the VS30 automatically saves the previous patient’s
record and discharges that patient before admitting the new patient.
In Interval or Continuous monitoring mode, the new patient is admitted without
saving the most recent vital signs measurements. (In Interval and Continuous modes,
the patient record is saved automatically at configured intervals during monitoring, so
no additional save is required.)
Using the Admit Button to Open the New Patient Menu
The Admit button is available only when the primary ID in the patient bar displays as
Unknown—in other words, when there is no currently admitted patient. If a patient is
already admitted on the monitor, you must discharge that patient in order to access the
Admit button. See “Discharging a Patient” on page 3-32.
