EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use 3-17
Creating a Patient Record
Creating a Patient Record
A new patient record is started when you admit a patient by entering patient information
in the New Patient Menu. However, the record is not added to the Records menu or to
the patient records database until vital signs measurements are taken and the record is
saved.
After starting a patient record, the procedures for completing the record vary depending
on the current monitoring mode and how your monitor is configured. This section
presents the following topics:
“Starting a New Patient Record” on page 3-18
“Completing a Patient Record in Spot Check Monitoring Mode” on page 3-20
“Completing a Patient Record in Interval Monitoring Mode” on page 3-21
“Completing a Patient Record in Continuous Monitoring Mode” on page 3-24
WARNING
The procedures in this section instruct you to enter patient information in the New Patient Menu
before taking the patient’s vital signs measurements. Follow the steps in the order they are
written. Taking measurements before entering a primary ID for the patient may result in sending a
patient record with the wrong patient ID to the EMR.
To ensure patient safety, always ensure that you select the correct patient ID before measuring
and saving vital signs.
Caution
Before you begin monitoring, make sure that the correct patient type is selected. The default
alarm limits and initial cuff inflation pressures are based on the selected patient type. Patient
injury may occur if adult inflation pressures are used for pediatric or neonatal patients. Once the
patient record has been saved, you cannot change the patient type.
If you plan to use Interval or Continuous monitoring mode, you must admit the patient before
specifying any intervals. Currently configured interval settings are always canceled when a new
patient is admitted. Therefore, if you admit a patient after setting the interval, automatic NBP
measurements will not be taken unless you set the interval again.
Blue The record was not exported successfully. The record appears in the
Pending Records tab, where it remains until the export failure is resolved.
If error messages have been configured on the EMR server, touching the
Error Text button displays the reason for the failure.
After the export failure condition is resolved, the record color:
Changes to purple if validation is still required.
Changes to green if successfully exported.
