Creating a Patient Record
3-18 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
Notes:
• You do not have to enter a patient ID to take a set of measurements. However, only
records that have a patient ID can be exported over a LAN or WLAN network. If you
are unsure whether a patient ID is required, see your system administrator.
• Depending on the workflow that your system administrator configures, you may be
prompted to enter your operator ID and password before admitting a patient or
reviewing patient records. For more information, see “Validating Patient Records
before Export” on page 3-38.
• If you switch from Interval or Continuous monitoring mode to Spot Check monitoring
mode, the current patient is no longer monitored and the primary ID is reset to
Unknown.
• Your facility may require you to record additional observations and assessments in a
patient record. See “Including Observations and Assessments in a Patient Record” on
page 3-27.
• Your monitor may be configured for Early Warning Scoring. See “Working with Early
Warning Scoring (EWS)” on page 3-32.
• Your system administrator can enable or disable any monitoring mode except Spot
Check. The Mode menu displays only the modes that are enabled. Spot Check is
always available.
Starting a New Patient Record
A new patient record is started when you admit a patient by entering patient information
in the New Patient Menu. However, the record is not added to the Records menu or to
the patient records database until vital signs measurements are taken and the record is
saved.
To start a new patient record
1 If you plan to use Spot Check monitoring mode, ensure that Spot Check is selected
from the Mode menu at the upper left of the main screen.
Caution
If you plan to use Interval or Continuous monitoring mode, you can select the mode from the Mode
menu now, but do not specify NBP interval settings for either of these modes until after you have
admitted the patient. Interval settings are always reset to defaults (as configured by your system
administrator) when a new patient is admitted. Therefore, if you specify NBP intervals before
admitting the patient, your settings are lost and no automatic NBP measurements are taken.
2 Touch the Admit button on the patient bar of the main screen, or scan a patient’s
wristband barcode.
See “Methods for Entering and Editing Patient Information” on page 3-13 for more
information about using a barcode scanner versus using the Admit button and
manual entry.
