Creating a Patient Record
3 If you are prompted, enter your operator ID and password, then touch the Log On
button.
The New Patient Menu appears.
Notes:
• If an error message appears after you enter the operator ID and password,
contact your system administrator.
• If you touch the Skip button instead of the Log On button, you may be prompted
to enter an ID and password when you review the record before export. For more
information about reviewing records, see “Validating Patient Records before
Export” on page 3-38.
4 Touch the correct patient type.
Caution
Before you begin monitoring, make sure that the correct patient type is selected. The default limits
and initial cuff inflation pressures are based on the selected patient type. Patient injury may occur if
adult inflation pressures are used for pediatric or neonatal patients. Once the patient record has
been saved, you cannot change the patient type.
Notes:
• If your system administrator has set the Enforce Patient Type option, the default
patient type is not highlighted and you cannot save the patient information until
the patient type is selected.
• If your system administrator has not set the Enforce Patient Type option, the
default patient type is highlighted in blue.
• Ensure that you select the correct patient type.
5 Enter patient information in one or more fields.
Note the following:
- An asterisk next to a field label indicates that the field is required. In order to
proceed with admitting the patient, you must complete all required fields.
- If you are using a barcode scanner, red text at the lower left of the window
prompts you to scan the code for each field sequentially.
- If you are using a programmed barcode scanner, all programmed fields are
automatically populated.
- If your system administrator configured more than nine patient information fields,
touch the right arrow at lower right to display the next page of fields.
