Working with Early Warning Scoring (EWS)
3-32 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
Working with Early Warning Scoring (EWS)
If QuickAlerts EWS (Early Warning Scoring) is configured on your monitor:
During monitoring, the following indicators appear in the numeric panes for each
measurement that is required to calculate an early warning score:
- Yellow asterisk to indicate the measurement is required.
- Colored risk band circles to indicate the risk level of the current measurement
value. The risk band circles contain numeric sub-scores if configured to do so.
If the values for any fields in the Observations and Assessment menu are required
by the EWS protocol, a yellow asterisk appears in the Observations and
Assessments pane.
An EWS pane is added above the NBP pane on the main screen to track the number
of required parameters. When all required parameters have been collected, the EWS
pane indicates that you must save the record in order to view the EWS results.
When you touch Save or Save Now to save the record, a QuickAlerts advisory
window opens to display the final EWS scores, along recommended actions to take in
response to the scores.
When you view a patient record in the Records menu, an EWS button is available.
Touch the EWS button to view EWS details.
For more information about Early Warning Scoring, see Chapter 12, “Early Warning
Scoring and QuickCheck Workflows.”
Discharging a Patient
The current patient is automatically discharged when you touch Save to save a record in
Spot Check monitoring mode, or when you use a barcode scanner to admit a new patient
in any monitoring mode.

Continuous.
To manually discharge the current patient
1 Do one of the following:
- Touch the Discharge button in the patient bar on the main screen.
- Touch the patient bar on the main screen to expand the patient information, then
touch the Discharge button in the expanded bar.
The patient is discharged.
