Switch Decoder
Installation and Conguration instructions
1. Introduction to the World of PIKO Digital Operation
As opposed to conventional control systems, your PIKO Digital system is able
to control multiple locomotives independently of each other. Complex wiring and
insulated points for track sections are no longer necessary. The constant traction
current at the track is approx. 20 V. For the digital control, each loco must be
equipped with a digital decoder in which the properties of each traction vehicle
can be set individually (e.g. address of the locomotive, driving qualities, lighting).
The digital central station processes this information and, together with the traction
current, transfers it to the tracks.
By means of the handheld control unit, you can select an individual locomotive
or switch machine and generate movement and functional commands. Only the
decoder you selected will respond to the commands so that only the selected
loco will move or the respective switch point will be operated. In addition to a loco
with decoder and - if you want to control switch units digitally - at least one switch
machine, you need the following components to get started with your PIKO G-Digital
System:
#35000 Power supply
#35010 Central Station
#35011/35021* Navigator (handheld remote control)
#35012/35022* Wireless Receiver (optional- for wireless walkaround control)
#35013 Switch Decoder (optional - for Digital control of switches)
#35016 Single channel switch decoder, optional
2. Switch Decoder - Brief Description
To operate the switch decoder, you need a functioning DCC Digital system with
tracks and a switch machine. The PIKO single channel switch decoder allows you to
operate your PIKO switch machines (#35271) without installing long cable runs.
The digital central station is sending the switch command to the decoder via the
track. Provided that the received address corresponds with the programmed
address, the switch machine will change to the requested direction.
The decoder is specically designed for use with the PIKO switch machine up to 1A.
We cannot provide any guarantee on function and t if the decoder is being used
with third-party products. The decoder is controlled by means of a digital central
station with handheld remote control (#35010 and 35011/35021*).
The decoder must only be operated with central stations with a maximum digital
voltage of 24 V (DCC format). The decoder cannot be used with “Motorola” format
digital systems.
