Normally,
the
best
technique
for
short
and
slow
landings
is
to
use
full
flaps
and
enough
power
to
maintain the
desired
appro
ach
flight
path.
The
mixture s hould be full ri
ch,
fuel
selector
on
the
fullest
tank,
and
the
electric
fuel pump on.
The
airspeed
should
be
r
ed
uced
during flare out and
contact
with
the
ground
should
be
made
close
to
stalling
speed
. After ground
contact,
the
no
se
wheel
s hould
be
held off. As the
airplane
s lows down, the
nose
s hould
be
eased
down a
nd
the
brakes
appl
i
ed.
There
will
be
less
chance
of
skidding
the
tires
if
the
flaps
are r
et
r
ace
d before
app
lying the
brakes.
Br
aki
ng
is
most
effective
when back
pressure
is
a
ppli
ed
to
the
control
wheel,
puttin
g most of the
airp
lane
we
ight
on
the
ma
in
wheels
without
lifting
the
nose
whee
l.
In high wind
condi
-
tions,
it may be
desirable
to
approach
at
higher
than
normal
speeds,
it
is
still
desirable
to
make
contact
with
the
runway when
the
airplane
is
approxim3tely
at
its
minimum
speed
.
STOPPING ENGINE
At
the
pilot's
discretion,
the
flaps
should
be
raised
and
the
electric
fuel pump turned off. After parking,
the
radios
should
be
turned off,
the
propeller
set
to
increase
RPM and
th
e e
ngine
th
en
stopped
by
pulling the mixture
control
to
idle
cut-off.
The
throttle
shou
ld
be
left
full
aft
to
avoid
engine
vibration
whil
e
stopping.
Then
the
ignition and
master
switches
should
be
turned
o
ff
and
the parking brake
set.
