Overview

The Plantronics Blackwire C610/C620 is a series of PC headsets designed to enhance the audio experience for calls made through a computer, offering a simpler, more comfortable, and higher-quality alternative to internal computer microphones and speakers. This quick setup guide outlines the process for integrating the headset with Cisco Unified Communications and Microsoft Lync for seamless call management.

Function Description

The primary function of the Blackwire C610/C620 headsets is to provide superior audio for PC-based telephony, specifically optimized for use with Cisco Unified Communications Integration for Microsoft Lync. These headsets allow users to make and receive calls with clear sound quality, utilizing wideband audio for optimal voice communication. They are designed to replace the often-inferior built-in audio components of a computer, offering dedicated microphone and speaker solutions. The C610 is a monaural (single-ear) version, while the C620 is a stereo (two-ear) version, catering to different user preferences for awareness of their surroundings or immersive audio.

Key features include:

  • Call Answer/End Control: Users can answer or end calls directly from the headset, providing convenience and efficiency.
  • Microphone Mute: A dedicated button on the headset allows for quick muting of the microphone, useful for privacy or when not speaking.
  • Volume Adjustment: Integrated controls on the headset enable users to easily adjust the listening volume during calls.
  • Wideband PC Audio Telephony: The headsets are engineered to deliver high-fidelity audio, ensuring clear and natural-sounding conversations.
  • User-Friendly Design: The innovative design focuses on ease of use and integration with communication platforms.

Usage Features

The Blackwire C610/C620 headsets are designed for straightforward setup and intuitive operation with Cisco Unified Communications Integration for Microsoft Lync.

Getting Started and Setup:

  1. Connection: The first step involves connecting the headset to the computer via a USB port. For initial connections, the system will automatically install necessary drivers.
  2. Software Download: To enable full call control features, users must download and install the latest Plantronics software from plantronics.com/software. It is recommended to consult with IT staff before installing any software.
  3. Configuration with Cisco Unified Communications Integration for Microsoft Lync:
    • Access the Cisco window and click the "Settings" button.
    • Navigate to "Cisco UC Options" and select "Audio."
    • Designate the Plantronics headset as the default device for both "Microphone" and "Speakers." This ensures all call audio is routed through the headset.
    • Users can also configure where incoming call alerts (ringtone) are played. While typically routed through PC speakers, the option exists to play them through the headset.
    • Volume levels for both speakers and ringtone can be adjusted within this configuration screen.
    • Once settings are finalized, click "OK."
    • Important Note: USB configuration settings are unique to each USB port. If the headset is connected to a different port, these configuration steps will need to be repeated.

Making Calls:

  • Calling an Existing Contact: In the Microsoft Lync window, users can click on a contact, then drag and drop that contact onto the Cisco window to initiate a call.
  • Dialing a Number Manually: Alternatively, a phone number can be entered into the search box at the top of the main Lync window. After entering the number, it can be dragged and dropped onto the Cisco window to place the call.
  • Upon placing a call, a dedicated call window will open, and the audio will automatically be routed through the headset.

Ending Calls:

  • Calls can be ended either by using the dedicated call answer/end control on the headset or by clicking the red phone icon within the active call window on the computer screen.

Receiving Calls:

  • When an incoming call is received, a notification window will appear on the computer screen.
  • To answer the call, users can either press the call answer/end button on their headset or click the phone icon within the call notification window.

Headset Controls:

The headset features intuitive controls for managing calls:

  • Mute Microphone (A): A button to quickly mute or unmute the microphone.
  • Volume Adjust (B): Controls to increase or decrease the listening volume.
  • Call Answer/End (C): A button to answer or terminate calls.

Maintenance Features

While the provided manual does not detail specific maintenance procedures, the design of the Blackwire C610/C620 suggests a focus on durability and ease of use, implying minimal user maintenance.

  • Durable Construction: Engineered for all-day comfort, the headsets are built to withstand prolonged use in a professional environment.
  • Software Updates: Keeping the Plantronics software updated is crucial for maintaining optimal performance and compatibility with evolving communication platforms. These updates often include bug fixes, performance enhancements, and new features.
  • Cleanliness: As with any personal electronic device, occasional cleaning of the ear cushions and microphone boom with a soft, dry cloth is recommended to maintain hygiene and appearance. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: When not in use, storing the headset in a safe place away from extreme temperatures or direct sunlight can help prolong its lifespan.

The Blackwire C610/C620 headsets are designed to be a reliable and integral part of a PC-based communication setup, offering a high-quality audio experience with straightforward controls and seamless integration with leading unified communications platforms.
