Automatic Transmission Gear Selector Operation
Shift patterns depend on the
type of vehicle you own. Please
check your Owners Manual
Supplement to define your ma-
chine’s shift pattern.
Thetransmission gear selectoris
located on the right side of the
vehicle directly above and for-
ward of the engine recoil starter.
The transmission selector lever
has three or four positions: high
forward; reverse; neutral; and
low forward or forward; reverse;
and neutral. Check your Own-
ers Manual Supplement for
specification.
NOT E: To exten d belt life, use low forward gear in heavy pullin g
situations and in situations where you are operating below 7
miles per hour for extended periods of time.
Always place the transmission in gear with the parking brake
locked whenever the vehicle is left unattended.
Maintaining shift linkage adjustment is important to assure proper
transmission function. Should you experience any shifting prob-
lem see your dealer.

To change gears, stop the vehicle and with the engine idling,
move the lever to the desired gear. Shifting gears with the en-
gine speed above idle or while the vehicle is moving could
cause transmission damage.
