Questions and Answers

Overview

This document outlines the features, usage, and maintenance of the PowerPlus POWXG30033 Grass Trimmer.

The PowerPlus POWXG30033 is a grass trimmer designed for domestic use, specifically for trimming and finishing lawn edges, as well as cutting grass in confined spaces. It is not intended for professional applications. The device is equipped with a trigger switch, an auxiliary handle, a handle rotation locking collar, a height adjustment locking collar, a telescope tube, a motor housing, a flower guard, a cutting head, a safety guard, a cable strain relief hook, and an edger wheel.

For safe operation, users must read the manual and general safety instructions carefully before use. The power tool should only be given to other users along with these instructions. The working area should be kept clean and well-lit to prevent accidents. The device should not be operated in potentially explosive atmospheres, as sparks generated by power tools can ignite dust or fumes. Children and bystanders must be kept at a safe distance to avoid distractions.

Electrical safety is paramount. Users must ensure that the power supply matches the voltage specified on the rating plate. Power tool plugs must always match the outlet, and adapter plugs should not be used with earthed power tools. Contact with earthed surfaces like pipes, radiators, kitchen ranges, and refrigerators should be avoided to reduce the risk of electric shock. The power tool should not be exposed to rain or wet conditions, as water ingress increases the risk of electric shock. The power cord must not be damaged or used for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the tool. It should be kept away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. If an extension cable is used outdoors, it must be suitable for outdoor use. In damp locations, a power supply protected by a residual current device (RCD) should be used.

Personal safety measures include staying alert, being mindful of actions, and using common sense. The trimmer should not be operated when tired, under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Safety equipment, such as eye protection, a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, a hard hat, or hearing protection, should always be worn. Accidental starts must be avoided by ensuring the switch is in the off position before inserting the plug. Any adjusting keys or spanners must be removed before turning on the power tool. Users should not overreach and should keep their feet firmly on the ground to maintain control. Proper attire, free of loose clothing or jewelry, is essential to prevent entanglement with moving parts. If the device has dust extraction and collection facilities, they should be used correctly to reduce dust-related hazards.

Regarding power tool use and care, the trimmer should be used only for its intended purpose. If the switch is faulty and cannot turn the tool on or off, the device must be repaired. Before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool, the plug must be disconnected from the power source. When not in use, power tools should be stored out of reach of children and untrained individuals. Regular maintenance is crucial; users should check for misalignment, jammed moving parts, breakages, or any other issues that might affect operation. Cutting tools should be kept sharp and clean. The power tool, accessories, and cutting tools should be used according to the instructions and the specific working conditions.

Service should only be performed by a qualified specialist using standard spare parts to ensure safety standards are met.

Additional safety rules for grass trimmers specify that children or untrained persons must not use the device. Users must wear stout shoes or boots and long trousers to protect their feet and legs. The appliance should only be connected to an electric circuit protected by an earth leakage switch (30 mA). Before each use, the appliance must be checked for damage; if damaged, it must not be used and should be repaired by an authorized agent. The mains cable and extension cord should be inspected for damage or wear. If damaged, the mains cable must be immediately removed from the wall socket, and the cable should not be touched before removal. The trimmer should not be used in the presence of children or animals, and only in daylight or with good lighting. The guard must always be in place during operation. Before starting work, sticks, stones, wire, and other obstacles should be removed from the cutting area. The appliance should only be used in an upright position with the cutting line pointing to the ground. Hands and feet must be kept away from the cutting line, and the mains cable must not touch the cutting line. Before putting the appliance down, the trimmer must be switched off, and the cutting line allowed to come to a complete standstill naturally. Users should never attempt to stop the cutting line manually. It is important to note that the cutting line continues to rotate for a short time after the appliance is switched off. Only the manufacturer-recommended cutting line type should be used; metal cutting lines or fishing lines are prohibited. The plug should be removed from the wall socket after use, before servicing, or when the appliance is not in storage. After use, the appliance should be stored safely and out of reach of children. The trimmer should not be used to cut against hard objects or grass not in contact with the ground (e.g., on walls or rocks).

Assembly involves fixing the safety guard and edger wheel to the trimmer head using the provided screws, ensuring the sides are located in the grooves. The guard has a sharp cutting edge for the nylon line. The auxiliary handle can be assembled by pushing the knobs and sliding the handle onto the shaft. The handle's bracket can be moved up or down, and the handle itself can be adjusted into five different locked positions. The tool must never be operated without the guard properly in place, as this can cause the motor to overheat and void the warranty.

For operation, the trimmer is switched on by pressing the On/Off trigger and off by releasing it. If the nylon line is too short, the trimmer should be run for a few seconds while touching the working area to allow the line to lengthen and be cut. To maintain efficiency, the trimmer should not be overloaded; instead, cut in small sections at high speed. The edge of the guard can be used as a guide when cutting near fences and walls. The telescopic length can be adjusted by unscrewing the height adjustment locking collar, sliding the shaft to the desired height, and then screwing it to fix the shaft in place.

To use the trimmer as an edger, the device must be switched off and disconnected from the power mains. The rotation locking collar is lifted, and the top of the shaft is turned 180° counter-clockwise (the head moves in one direction only). The locking collar is then released to secure the shaft. To prevent accidental starts, the power cord must always be disconnected before rotating the shaft. To reduce strain on the cable inlet, a loop should be formed and located around the strain relief hook.

The trimmer features an intelligent line feed system. When initially switched on, a small length of line is fed out. A "clattering" noise is normal as the lines hit the line cutter and will reduce as the motor reaches full speed after about 5 seconds. If the cutting noise is not heard, more line will be fed out automatically. The intelligent line feed system automatically feeds more line when needed or when resistance is encountered, without requiring the machine to be stopped. Users must ensure the line is fed out and the motor is at full speed before trimming. Only 1.60mm diameter cutting line should be used; other sizes or materials like wire, string, or rope can cause improper cutting head function, serious injury, or dangerous missile projection if they break off.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues. If the line does not advance, possible causes include the line being welded to itself, insufficient line on the spool, the line being too short, or the line being tangled. Solutions include lubricating with silicone spray, replacing the spool, removing and feeding out the line, or rewinding the line. If the cutting head is hard to turn, it may be due to grass wrapped or built up around the head; the solution is to clean the affected parts. If grass continually wraps around the shaft and trimmer head assembly, it may be due to cutting tall grass at ground level; the solution is to cut tall grass from the top down. If the line trimmer stops and does not start again, the unit may have failed or the plug may be damaged; solutions include contacting the dealer or checking the plug.

For cleaning and maintenance, the tool is designed for long-term operation with minimal maintenance, but proper care and regular cleaning are essential. Before any maintenance, the tool must be switched off and unplugged. The ventilation slot should be regularly cleaned with a soft brush or dry cloth. The cutting line and spool should also be cleaned regularly with a soft brush or dry cloth. A blunt scraper should be used regularly to remove grass and dirt from underneath the guard.

The product comes with a 36-month warranty from the date of purchase by the first user. This warranty covers material or production flaws but excludes batteries, chargers, defective parts subject to normal wear and tear (bearings, brushes, cables, plugs), or accessories (drills, drill bits, saw blades). Damage or defects resulting from maltreatment, accidents, alterations, or transportation costs are not covered. Inappropriate use also voids the warranty. The manufacturer disclaims liability for bodily injury from inappropriate tool use. Repairs must only be carried out by an authorized Powerplus customer service center. Information can be obtained by calling 00 32 3 292 92 90. Transportation costs are borne by the customer unless otherwise agreed. Claims are not accepted if damage results from negligent maintenance or overload. Exclusions from the warranty include fluid permeation, excessive dust, intentional damage, inappropriate usage, incompetent usage, inexpert assembly, lightning strike, or erroneous net voltage. Warranty claims do not prolong the warranty period or start a new one. Replaced devices or parts become the property of Varo NV. The right to reject a claim is reserved if purchase cannot be verified or if the product has not been properly maintained. The purchase receipt serves as proof of date of purchase.

For environmental considerations, the appliance should not be disposed of with household rubbish after extended use. It should be disposed of in an environmentally safe way, with electrical machine items recycled where facilities exist. Local authorities or retailers can provide recycling advice.
