Overview

This document describes the Predator 8750 Watt Portable Generator, model 63086.

Function Description

The Predator 8750 Watt Portable Generator is a horizontal single-cylinder, 4-stroke OHV engine with forced air cooling, designed to provide electrical power. It features both manual and electric start capabilities (battery not included). The generator is equipped with various receptacles to accommodate different electrical loads and includes safety features such as GFCI protection and circuit breakers. It is intended for use in well-ventilated areas and requires proper grounding.

  • Run Time @ 50% load: 12 hr.
  • Operational Volume: 76 dB.
  • Available accessories: Wheel kit (sold separately).

Usage Features

Setup:

  • The generator must be installed by qualified service personnel with restricted access.
  • Gasoline fuel and fumes are flammable; proper storage and handling are crucial.
  • Multiple ABC class fire extinguishers should be nearby.
  • Operation may create sparks; a spark arrestor may be required.
  • Set up and use on a flat, level, well-ventilated surface.
  • Electrical connections to the load must be installed by trained and licensed electricians, complying with all codes.
  • Connections for standby power to a building electrical system must be made by a qualified electrician to isolate generator power from utility power.
  • The generator requires a 12V, 9Ah lead-acid battery (not included) for electric start.
  • Proper grounding is essential for safety, connecting a #6 AWG grounding wire from the Grounding Terminal to an earth-driven copper or brass rod (at least 24 inches deep). GFCI receptacles will not protect from electric shock if not grounded.
  • Not intended to power sensitive electronic equipment without an appropriate line conditioner and surge protector.

Starting the Engine:

  • Cold Start: Move the Choke to the CHOKE position.
  • Warm Start: Leave the Choke in the RUN position.
  • Open the Fuel Valve.
  • Manual Start: Turn the Engine Switch to ON. Pull the Starter Handle gently until resistance is felt, then pull quickly. Repeat until the engine starts. Do not let the Starter Handle snap back.
  • Electric Start: Turn the Engine Switch to START. Use short starting cycles (5 seconds maximum) and wait one minute between attempts.
  • Allow the engine to run for several seconds, then slowly move the Choke lever to the RUN position.
  • Allow the engine to run at no load for five minutes after each start-up to stabilize.
  • Break-in Period: Approximately 3 hours of use with no heavy load. Change engine oil after 20 hours of use.

Connecting Electrical Loads:

  • Determine the total wattage needed for all products.
  • Do not exceed the generator's rated capacity (7,000 running watts, 8,750 starting watts).
  • Connect the highest wattage items first, then inductive loads, and finally light loads.
  • Test GFCI receptacles before each use by pressing the Test button; the Reset button should extend, cutting off electricity. Press Reset to restore power.
  • If engine speed or voltage fluctuates, move the Choke Lever to the "HALF-CHOKE" position.
  • If circuit breakers trip, reduce the load, allow the generator to cool, reset the breaker, and re-attach loads.

Stopping the Engine:

  • Emergency Stop: Turn the Engine Switch off.
  • Normal Stop: Turn off all electrical loads, unplug them, turn the Engine Switch off, and close the Fuel Valve.
  • Allow the generator and engine to cool completely before storage.

Maintenance Features

Service Precautions:

  • Before service, maintenance, or cleaning: Unplug all devices, turn the engine switch to "OFF," allow the engine to cool, and remove the spark plug cap.
  • Keep all safety guards in place and in working order.
  • Keep all electrical equipment clean and dry; replace damaged wiring or terminals.
  • Do not alter or adjust sealed parts; only qualified technicians should adjust governed engine speed.
  • Wear ANSI-approved safety goggles, heavy-duty work gloves, and a dust mask/respirator during service.
  • Maintain labels and nameplates.
  • Have equipment serviced by a qualified repair person using identical replacement parts.
  • Store equipment out of reach of children.
  • Follow scheduled engine and equipment maintenance.

Checking and Filling Fuel:

  • Fill the fuel tank in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Use 87+ octane stabilizer-treated unleaded gasoline. Do not use E85 ethanol.
  • Do not overfill; leave space for expansion.
  • Wipe up spilled fuel and allow it to evaporate before starting.

Engine Oil Change:

  • Check oil level before each use; fill to the full mark.
  • Change engine oil after the break-in period (20 hours) and then according to the maintenance schedule.
  • Drain oil when the engine is warm.

Air Filter Element Maintenance:

  • Clean the air filter cover and element.
  • Wash the foam element in warm water and mild detergent, rinse, squeeze out excess water, and allow to dry completely.
  • Secure the Air Cleaner Cover.

Spark Plug Maintenance:

  • Disconnect spark plug cap, clean out debris.
  • Remove and inspect the spark plug. Clean oily electrodes with a rag, polish deposits with emery paper. Replace if cracked or chipped.
  • Adjust gap to specifications (0.028"-0.031").
  • Install new or cleaned spark plug, tightening properly.
  • Apply dielectric spark plug boot protector and reattach the wire.

Storage:

  • For storage longer than 20 days:
    • Clean the engine with a dry cloth (do not use water). Apply rust preventive oil to metal parts.
    • Fill the fuel tank with stabilizer-treated gasoline.
    • Change engine oil.
    • Remove spark plug, pour one tablespoon of engine oil into the cylinder, replace spark plug (cap disconnected). Pull Starter Handle to distribute oil.
    • Store in a dry, level, well-ventilated area away from ignition sources.
  • During extended storage, start the engine every 3 months and run for 15-20 minutes to avoid voiding the warranty.
  • After storage, drain untreated gasoline and replace with fresh fuel if it has been sitting for a month or longer.

Emissions Control System Warranty:

  • The emissions control system is warranted for two (2) years from the date of purchase.
  • The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for components such as the carburetor, fuel pump, air induction system, ignition system, exhaust system, and various hoses and connectors.
  • Maintenance, misuse, or abuse can void the warranty.
