Overview

This document is an instruction manual for a PULSAR analogue watch with Calibre VX42. It provides comprehensive information on the watch's operation, maintenance, and technical specifications.

Function Description:

The PULSAR analogue watch primarily functions as a time-telling device. Depending on the model, it can also display the date and day of the week. Some models are mechanical (Cal. Y621) and require initial swinging to start, while others are quartz watches powered by a battery. The manual details how to set the time and calendar for various models, including those without a calendar, with a date calendar, and with both day and date calendars.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Calibre: VX42 (for the specific watch covered by the manual's title), Y621 (for mechanical watches), PC33 (for some day and date calendar models).
  • Battery Type: Button battery.
  • Loss/Gain (monthly rate): Less than 15 seconds (20 seconds for some calibres) at normal temperature range (5°C ~ 35°C / 41°F ~ 95°F).
  • Temperature Range for Stable Accuracy: 5°C ~ 35°C (41°F ~ 95°F) for analogue quartz watches.
  • Extreme Temperatures: Temperatures over 60°C (140°F) or below -10°C (14°F) can affect battery life and time accuracy, though accuracy is corrected upon return to normal temperature.
  • Water Resistance: Varies by model, indicated by inscriptions on the case back:
    • Non-water resistant: No inscription. Should not get wet.
    • 3 bar: "WATER RESISTANT" inscription. Suitable for accidental splashes, not swimming or diving.
    • 5 bar: "WATER RESISTANT 5 BAR" inscription. Suitable for swimming, yachting, and showering.
    • 10 bar/15 bar/20 bar: "WATER RESISTANT 10 BAR", "WATER RESISTANT 15 BAR", or "WATER RESISTANT 20 BAR" inscription. Suitable for taking a bath, shallow diving, but not for scuba diving (a PULSAR Diver's watch is recommended for scuba).
    • Pressure in bar: A test pressure, not directly corresponding to actual diving depth.

Usage Features:

  • Screw Down Crown: For models with a screw-down crown, it must be unlocked by turning counterclockwise before pulling out, and locked by pushing in and turning clockwise until tight. This is crucial for water resistance.
  • Mechanical Watch Start (Cal. Y621): Swing the watch horizontally for about 30 seconds to initially start it. Daily wear will automatically wind the mainspring through wrist movement.
  • Time Setting (Models without Calendar): Pull the crown out, turn to set the time, then push back in.
  • Time/Calendar Setting (Models with Date Calendar): Pull the crown out to the first click to set the previous day's date. Pull out to the second click to set the time. Turn the crown until the desired date appears.
  • Time/Calendar Setting (Models with Day and Date Calendar): Pull the crown out to the first click to set the previous day's date and the previous day of the week (turning in opposite directions for each). For Cal. PC33, turning clockwise sets only the date. Pull out to the second click to set the time. Turn the crown until the desired date and day appear.
  • Notes on Time Setting:
    • When setting the minute hand of a quartz watch, advance it a few minutes ahead, then turn it back to the exact time.
    • For three-hand watches, pull the crown out fully when the second hand points at 12 o'clock. Push the crown back in according to a time signal for "00" seconds.
  • Notes on Calendar Setting:
    • Avoid changing the calendar between 9:00 P.M. and 4:00 A.M. as it may not change properly. If necessary, change the time outside this period, set the calendar, then reset the correct time.
    • For bilingual day calendars, the other language will appear temporarily during the day shift.
    • Check AM/PM setting when setting the hour hand. The calendar changes once in 24 hours. Passing the 12 o'clock marker determines AM/PM: if the calendar changes, it's AM; if not, it's PM.
  • Day Setting for Cal. PC33: At the second click position, turn the hands clockwise and counter-clockwise repeatedly between 11:15 p.m. and 3:45 a.m. to select the desired day and language.
  • Water Usage Precautions:
    • Ensure the crown is completely pushed in (and screwed down for screw-down crowns) before using the watch in water.
    • Do not operate the crown when the watch is wet or in water.
    • Rinse the watch in fresh water and dry it completely after use in sea water.
    • If the watch is left in warm water, slight time loss or gain may occur, but will correct when the watch returns to normal temperature.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Change:
    • The factory-inserted battery's life may be less than the specified period.
    • Replace expired batteries as soon as possible to prevent malfunction.
    • Contact an AUTHORIZED PULSAR DEALER for battery replacement.
    • WARNING: Do not remove the battery. Keep out of reach of children. Consult a doctor if swallowed. Never short-circuit, tamper with, heat, or expose to fire, as it may burst or catch fire.
    • CAUTION: The battery is not rechargeable. Do not attempt to recharge, as this may cause leakage or damage.
  • Care of Case and Bracelet: Wipe periodically with a soft, dry cloth to prevent rusting caused by dust, moisture, and perspiration.
  • Shocks & Vibration: Light activities are fine, but avoid dropping or hitting the watch against hard surfaces.
  • Chemicals: Avoid exposing the watch to solvents, mercury, cosmetic spray, detergents, adhesives, or paints, as this can cause discoloration or deterioration.
  • Magnetism: Keep the watch away from strong magnetic objects, as it can be adversely affected. For quartz watches, accuracy returns once moved away from the magnetic field.
  • Periodic Check: It is recommended to have the watch checked every 2 to 3 years by an AUTHORIZED PULSAR DEALER or SERVICE CENTER to ensure the case, crown, buttons, gasket, and crystal seal remain intact.
  • Case Back Protective Film: If present, peel off any protective film or sticker from the case back before using the watch.
