This document is an owner's manual for PUR water filtration systems, specifically covering pitcher models CR-1100C, PPT700W, and dispenser model DS-1800Z. The systems utilize MAXION Technology to transform tap water into clean, fresh-tasting drinking water.
Function Description
The PUR water filtration systems are designed to filter tap water, reducing various contaminants and improving taste and odor. They consist of a lid, a filter, a pour tray, and either a pitcher or a dispenser reservoir. The filter is the core component, responsible for removing impurities from the water as it passes through.
Important Technical Specifications
The manual details two types of replacement filters: CRF950Z (included with the system) and PPF951K (certified with the system, sold separately).
Filter Capacity:
- CRF950Z: 40 gallons (151 liters), lasting up to 1-2 months.
- PPF951K: 30 gallons (113 liters), lasting up to 1-2 months.
Rated Service Flow: Not Applicable for both filters.
Temperature Range:
- Maximum Temperature: 82°F (28°C) for both filters. Using water above this temperature may damage the filter.
- Minimum Temperature: 34°F (2°C) for both filters.
Contaminant Reduction (NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, and 401):
The systems are certified to reduce a wide range of substances, including:
Standard 53 (Health Effects):
- Lead (pH 8.5): 97.8% (CRF950Z) / 97.8% (PPF951K) reduction.
- Lead (pH 6.5): 99.4% (CRF950Z) / 99.4% (PPF951K) reduction.
- Cyst: >99.99% reduction for both filters (minimum 50,000/L influent challenge).
- 2,4-D: 86.0% reduction for both filters.
- Atrazine: 82.7% reduction for both filters.
- Benzene: >96.4% reduction for both filters.
- Cadmium (pH 6.5 & 8.5): 98.3% and 98.7% reduction respectively for both filters.
- Copper (pH 6.5 & 8.5): 98.2% and 95.1% reduction respectively for both filters.
- Mercury (pH 6.5 & 8.5): 96.7% and >96.6% reduction respectively for both filters.
- Tetrachloroethylene: >96.6% reduction for both filters.
- Carbon Tetrachloride: 96.0% reduction for both filters.
Standard 42 (Aesthetic Effects):
- Chlorine (Taste & Odor): >97.5% reduction for both filters.
- Nominal Particulate (Class I, particles 0.5 to <1µm): 99.1% (CRF950Z) / >99.9% (PPF951K) reduction.
- Zinc: 86.9% reduction for both filters.
Standard 401 (Emerging Compounds/Incidental Contaminants):
- Altenolol: 94.3% reduction for both filters.
- Bisphenol A: 94.2% reduction for both filters.
- Carbamazepine: 94.3% reduction for both filters.
- Estrone: 96.1% reduction for both filters.
- Linuron: >96.1% reduction for both filters.
- Nonyl Phenol: 95.9% reduction for both filters.
- TCEP: 94.2% reduction for both filters.
- Trimethoprim: >96.2% reduction for both filters.
The systems are tested and certified by WQA and NSF against these standards.
Usage Features
Initial Setup:
- Soak the filter in cold water for 15 minutes.
- Hand wash the pitcher or dispenser, lid, and pour tray with mild soapy water, then rinse well.
- Hold the filter under cold running tap water for 10 seconds to allow excess water to drain.
- Insert the filter into the pour tray, pulling it down while twisting clockwise for a tight seal. Ensure it is locked in place.
- Fill the pour tray with cold water (do not use hot water) and allow it to completely drain into the pitcher or dispenser reservoir.
Optimal Use, Care, and Safety:
- Use cold water only, not exceeding 82°F (28°C).
- Do not use with microbiologically unsafe water or water of unknown quality without adequate disinfection. Individuals requiring specific microbiological purity should consult a physician.
Electronic Filter Change Light (Model CR-1100C only):
This feature helps users know when to change the filter by measuring the filter's usage time.
- Resetting: Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds. The light will flash green when reset.
- Indication: After water is poured from the pitcher, the appropriate light will flash 6 times:
- Green: FILTER IS WORKING
- Yellow: CHANGE FILTER SOON
- Red: CHANGE FILTER NOW
- The light remains off until after water is poured.
- The Electronic Filter Change Light contains a non-replaceable battery that will eventually stop working, but the pitcher will remain functional.
Filter Life Calendar:
Models without a built-in filter indicator include a filter life calendar for manual tracking.
Maintenance Features
Filter Replacement:
- Filters should be replaced every 1-2 months or after filtering 40 gallons (CRF950Z) / 30 gallons (PPF951K) to ensure optimal performance.
- Replacement filters (CRF-950Z) can be purchased at most retail outlets.
Troubleshooting:
- Slow Filtering: Remove the filter and shake vigorously until granules are heard shifting inside.
- Unfiltered Water Leaks into Filtered Reservoir: Check that the filter is twisted firmly into place.
- Unfiltered Water Leaks from Pour Tray when Pouring: Completely drain the pour tray before pouring filtered water to prevent mixing.
- Indicator Light Stopped Working: The light may be in sleep mode. Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds to reset.
- Dispenser Valve Leaks: Check for obstructions (e.g., refrigerator door) that might accidentally open the valve.
