Do you have a question about the Pyle PLMRC400X4 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The PYLE PLMRC400X4 is a 4-channel weather-resistant audio amplifier system designed for use in cars, ATVs, UTVs, 4x4s, Jeeps, motorcycles, and other weather-resistant applications. It is a Class D compact amplifier.

Function Description

The PLMRC400X4 serves as a power amplifier to boost the audio signal from your head unit to your speakers. It features 4 channels, allowing for a stereo setup with two front and two rear speakers, or a bridged mode for higher power output to fewer speakers, such as subwoofers. The amplifier includes an X-OVER (crossover) frequency control, which allows you to select between Low-Pass (LPF) and High-Pass (HPF) filter settings to direct specific frequency ranges to your speakers, optimizing sound quality and protecting speakers from frequencies they are not designed to reproduce. It also has a Bass Boost control to enhance low frequencies. The system is designed to be weather-resistant, making it suitable for outdoor and marine environments.

Important Technical Specifications

    • Speaker wire: 2mm²

Usage Features

  • Installation: The amplifier requires careful installation, including secure mounting, proper wiring for DC power, signal input, and speaker outputs. All connections for DC power, signal input, and speaker outputs must be carried out safely and by RCA and screwed terminals.
  • Power Connection: Connect the BATT terminal to the positive pole of the battery with a lead cable and add a fuse into the power cable within a distance of not more than 30 cm from the battery. The GND terminal connects to the chassis ground of your car, ensuring good electrical and mechanical contact. The REM terminal connects to the automatic antenna connector of your car radio or a 12V switched source, which turns the amplifier ON and OFF with your car radio.
  • Speaker Connections: The amplifier supports 2-4 Ohm speaker connections in stereo mode and 4-8 Ohm connections in bridged mode. It is crucial to match the speaker impedance to the amplifier's capabilities to prevent damage.
  • Input Level Control (GAIN): This feature allows you to adjust the input level to match the output level of your head unit. It's recommended to set the gain control to "Min" and then gradually increase it until you achieve a sound most possibly without any distortion. If using several amplifiers, the adjustment has to be made for each set separately.
  • Crossover Control (X-OVER):
    • Low-Pass Filter (LPF): This control allows only frequencies below the set point to pass through to the speakers, typically used for subwoofers.
    • High-Pass Filter (HPF): This control allows only frequencies above the set point to pass through to the speakers, typically used for full-range or component speakers.
  • Bass Boost Control: This feature allows for boosting low frequencies to enhance bass output.
  • Remote Turn-On: The amplifier turns on automatically when the car stereo is turned on via the REM wire.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as no function, no sound, no sound/red LED protection light, poor sound quality (distortions), and no stereo sound and weak bass.

Maintenance Features

  • Protection Circuit: The amplifier is equipped with a protection circuit that operates in the following cases: the unit is overheated, or the speaker terminals are short-circuited. This circuit protects the amplifier from damage.
  • Fuse Replacement: If the fuse blows, check the power connection and replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again after replacement, there may be an internal malfunction, and professional consultation is advised. Use the specified amperage fuse (35A x 2).
  • Installation Environment: To ensure longevity and optimal performance, avoid installing the unit in direct sunlight or near a heater. It should not be exposed to rain or moisture, and should be kept away from dust or dirt. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
  • Wiring Inspection: Regularly check all connections for security and ensure that speaker cables are not shorted or touching any metal surfaces. Ground loops should be avoided by ensuring all components are grounded to a common point in a star-like way.
  • Cleaning: Keep the unit clean and free from dust and dirt.
  • Battery Voltage: Ensure the battery voltage is within the specified range (12-14.50 Volts DC) to prevent performance issues or damage. A weak auto battery can affect the amplifier's optimum performance.
