  If you are experiencing difficulty starting your fire and smoke is spilling out of the fireplace, several factors could be at play. Ensure you have adequate air available for combustion and that your firewood is dry and well-seasoned. Build your fires according to the instructions. Check that all chimney sections are properly installed and that the chimney is clean and free of creosote or soot buildup. Also, make sure overhanging trees and branches are cut back within ten feet of the top of the chimney and the chimney cap is clean. Verify that the ceramic blanket and baffle are correctly positioned. If the draft doesn't improve, add chimney sections gradually. You may also try placing crumpled paper on top of your kindling near the flue outlet.
