Questions and Answers

Overview

The MiniCHILLY and IceCHILLY are compact cooling units designed for process cooling in beverage production. These units are manufactured by WTG-Quantor GmbH, located in Föhren, Germany. The manual provides comprehensive instructions for installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance, ensuring safe and efficient use.

Function Description

The primary function of the MiniCHILLY and IceCHILLY units is to cool liquids for beverage production. They can be used for direct product cooling with an optional stainless steel cooling coil, provided by the manufacturer. The units are equipped with a refrigeration system that includes an expansion valve, condenser, fan, evaporator, and a water tank. A submersible pump with a stirrer circulates the cooling water.

The cooling units feature a WTG-Quantor multifunction controller, which offers three basic functions:

  1. APP 1 Ice bench controller: This function is used for building an ice bank, typically recommended for a set-point temperature of -1.0 °C (30.2 °F). Ice bank building takes approximately 2 hours after starting the unit.
  2. APP 2 Temperature controller for wet cooler: This function is for controlling the temperature in wet cooling applications.
  3. APP 3 Temperature controller for dry cooler: This function is for controlling the temperature in dry cooling applications.

The controller allows for set-point adjustment, programming menu access, and displays alarms. The unit is designed to operate with water or a glycol-water mixture, especially for temperatures below 0 °C.

Important Technical Specifications

The MiniCHILLY and IceCHILLY models come in various capacities, indicated by their model numbers (e.g., MiniCHILLY 03, IceCHILLY 77). Key technical specifications include:

  • Refrigerant: R290 for MiniCHILLY models, and R134a for IceCHILLY models.
  • Cooling Capacity (50Hz):
    • At 0°C water temp.: Ranges from 320 W (MiniCHILLY 03) to 3570 W (IceCHILLY 77).
    • At 15°C water temp.: Ranges from 460 W (MiniCHILLY 03) to 7000 W (IceCHILLY 77).
  • Cooling Capacity (60Hz):
    • At 0°C water temp.: Ranges from 380 W (MiniCHILLY 05) to 4280 W (IceCHILLY 77).
    • At 15°C water temp.: Ranges from 650 W (MiniCHILLY 05) to 8000 W (IceCHILLY 77).
  • Water Tank Volume: Ranges from 6.3 L (MiniCHILLY 03) to 320 L (IceCHILLY 77).
  • Water Connection: 3/4" for all models.
  • Dimensions (Length x Width x Height):
    • MiniCHILLY 03: 390 x 295 x 325 mm
    • IceCHILLY 77: 1075 x 920 x 785 mm
  • Weight Empty: Ranges from 21 kg (MiniCHILLY 03) to 175 kg (IceCHILLY 77).
  • Ice Bank: Ranges from 1.2 kg (MiniCHILLY 03) to 100 kg (IceCHILLY 77).
  • Connected Load: Ranges from 250 W (MiniCHILLY 03) to 3050 W (IceCHILLY 77).
  • Cooling Circuits: 1 for MiniCHILLY types, 2 for IceCHILLY types.
  • Evaporator Material: 1.4301 stainless steel.
  • Casing Material: Stainless steel.
  • Frequency: 50/60 Hz.
  • Voltage: 230 V / 1 Ph.
  • Noise Emission: 70 dB (A) according to EN 292 part 2 A1.

Usage Features

  • Installation: The unit must be placed on a plain, dry, and clean surface, ensuring sufficient ventilation and clear ventilation slots. No objects should be placed under the unit.
  • Temperature Range:
    • Min. water temperature: -6 °C (with propylene glycol).
    • Max. water temperature: +30 °C.
    • Max. ambient temperature: +32 °C.
  • Glycol Requirement: For cold water temperatures below 0 °C, it is mandatory to add 30% propylene glycol to the cooling water. This prevents ice bank building when using glycol.
  • Commissioning: Involves filling the water tank to the maximum mark, connecting water pipes, establishing electrical connection, starting the pump, and adjusting the desired temperature on the thermostat. The liquid level must be checked and refilled if it drops due to tube filling.
  • Safety: The unit should only be operated by trained personnel. Adjustments, maintenance, and repairs must be performed by qualified personnel. It is strictly prohibited to operate the unit with the lid removed or if it is damaged.
  • Controller Interface: The Eliwell controller features buttons for scrolling through menus, increasing/decreasing values, activating manual defrost, accessing basic commands, and confirming selections. LEDs indicate compressor status (on, delay, protection, blocked) and alarms (presence, cleared).
  • Programming Menu: Allows access to various settings and parameters. The keyboard can be locked to prevent unauthorized changes.
  • Intended Use: The units are specifically designed for cooling in beverage production processes. They are not suitable for cooling hot liquids, chemicals, or other unauthorized applications.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • Casing: Disconnect the mains plug before cleaning. Use a wet cloth and a little dish liquid; do not use water directly on the unit. Ensure no moisture enters the electrical parts.
    • Condenser: Should be cleaned at regular intervals (at least every six months) by qualified personnel to remove accumulated air dust.
  • Draining: For decommissioning, the unit must be drained and cleaned by qualified personnel.
  • Spare Parts: Only identical assemblies or parts from the manufacturer should be used for replacements.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a detailed troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the unit not starting, running but not cooling, or not switching off. It lists possible causes and corresponding error corrections, emphasizing that all repair works must be carried out by skilled and qualified personnel.
  • Service: All service work must strictly adhere to the information provided in the instruction manual. In case of unresolved failures, contact the responsible service.
