Overview

The Quectel SG865W series is a line of smart modules based on the Android operating system, designed for industrial-grade performance. These modules are engineered to meet demanding requirements in high computing power, AI, and multimedia functions.

Function Description:

The SG865W series modules support a wide range of functionalities, including:

  • Processing: Built-in high-performance Kryo™ 585 CPU, Adreno™ 650 GPU, Adreno 995 DPU, Adreno 665 VPU, Hexagon™ DSP, and Spectra™ 480 ISP.
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands), Bluetooth (BLE 5.1 BR/EDR + BLE for 2402–2480 MHz), USB interfaces (USB 2.0, USB 3.1 Gen 2, DisplayPort V1.4 over Type-C, OTG, host mode, hub expansion), UART interfaces (4-wire UART with hardware flow control, 2-wire debug UART), SD card interface (SD 3.0 protocol, hot-plug, 1.8 V or 2.95 V support), PCIe interfaces (2 x 2-lane PCIe Gen 3), and NFC.
  • Multimedia: Multiple audio and video input/output interfaces, support for various video codecs (decode up to 4K @ 240 fps; 8K @ 60 fps; encode up to 4K @ 120 fps; 8K @ 30 fps), LCM interfaces (2 groups of 4-lane MIPI DSI, up to 2.5 Gbps/lane), camera interfaces (6 groups of 4-lane MIPI CSI, up to 2.5 Gbps/lane, support 7 concurrent camera usages, max. 64 MP @ 30 fps ZSL @ 2 × ISP), and flashlight drivers (3 high-current Flash LED drivers).

  • Power Management: Battery charge and management (trickle, constant current, constant voltage modes), wireless charging interface (for battery voltage, fuel gauge, temperature detection), and various LDO outputs for peripheral circuits.

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off: Can be turned on by driving PWRKEY low for at least 1.6 s (using an open drain/collector driver or a button with TVS protection). Automatic turn-on is possible by driving CBL_PWR_N to GND via a 1 kΩ resistor, though manual turn-off is then disabled. Forced shutdown by driving PWRKEY low for at least 8 s.
  • Battery Management: Supports battery temperature detection via a 100 kΩ NTC thermistor. If no thermistor, BAT_THERM should be pulled down to GND via a 100 kΩ resistor to prevent charging failures.
  • DisplayPort: Supports 4-lane DisplayPort mode up to 4K @ 60 fps over Type-C.
  • Debugging: Debug UART is available by default at 115200 bps. USB0 can also be used for software debugging and firmware upgrades. USB_BOOT pin allows entering emergency download mode for firmware upgrades and debugging.
  • Peripheral Expansion: Supports external LDOs, GPIOs, and various sensor integrations. USB1 supports host mode and hub expansion.
  • Camera Integration: Supports up to 7 cameras with MIPI CSI interfaces, with CCI_I2C/I3C signals controlled by Linux Kernel.
  • Backlight Control: Provides backlight driving outputs for LCM WLEDs, with high voltage output (LCD_BL_A) up to 32.5 V and 4 current sinks (LCD_BL_K[1-4]) up to 30 mA each.

Maintenance Features:

  • Storage: Vacuum-sealed packaging with a shelf life of 12 months at 23 ±5 °C and 35–60 % RH. Floor life of 168 hours after opening in a controlled environment (23 ±5 °C, <60 % RH).
  • Pre-baking: Required if storage conditions are violated, packaging is broken, or before module repairing. Bake for 8 hours at 120 ±5 °C.
  • Soldering: Recommended stencil thickness of 0.15–0.18 mm for solder paste application. Peak reflow temperature of 235–246 °C (absolute max 246 °C). Avoid repeated heating; mount module after reflow soldering for the other side of PCB is completed.
  • ESD Protection: Crucial during development, production, assembly, and testing. Use anti-static gloves and add ESD protection components to sensitive interfaces.
  • Layout Guidelines: Detailed recommendations for routing USB, SD card, PCIe, and MIPI traces, including impedance control, length matching, ground shielding, and spacing to avoid crosstalk and interference.
  • Conformal Coating: If needed, use materials that do not chemically react with PCB or shielding cover and prevent flow into the module.
  • Cleaning: Avoid ultrasonic cleaning to prevent damage to internal crystals.
