      Jasmine LindseyAug 12, 2025
If the Power Nozzle brush on your Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner is stopped and cannot be rotated by hand, it could be due to an object lodged in the brush chamber. Disconnect the power, remove the sole plate, remove any foreign objects, and make sure the brush rotates freely. Alternatively, the bearing might be worn out, in which case you should contact an Authorized Rainbow Distributor or Service Center for a replacement brush roll.

If your Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner's Power Nozzle isn't picking up debris effectively, it could be due to several reasons. First, check for a clogged air chamber by disconnecting the power, removing the sole plate, and clearing out the entire air chamber. Also, inspect the wands or hose for clogs; disconnect the power, remove any obstructions, connect it to the Rainbow, and ensure air flows freely. Finally, ensure the sole plate is correctly positioned and latched. If the bristles are worn too short, consider replacing the brush.

Replacing the Power Nozzle Belt

Overview

The Rainbow Power Nozzle is an accessory designed for use with the RHCS19 Rainbow model vacuum cleaner, intended for household cleaning tasks. It functions as a motorized brush head that enhances the vacuum's ability to clean carpets and other surfaces.

Function Description:

The Power Nozzle is a specialized attachment that connects to the Rainbow vacuum via wands and a hose. Its primary function is to agitate and lift dirt, dust, and debris from carpets and hard surfaces using a rotating brush roll and active edge cleaning brushes. This mechanical action, combined with the Rainbow's suction, provides a thorough cleaning. The device is powered electrically, with its motor protected by an automatic resetting mechanism.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Compatibility: Exclusively designed for use with the RHCS19 Rainbow model.
  • Insulation: Features double insulation, indicated by the words "DOUBLE INSULATION" or "DOUBLE INSULATED," or the double insulation symbol (square within a square). This design provides two systems of insulation instead of grounding, enhancing safety.
  • Power Source: Operates on electrical power supplied through the Rainbow system.
  • Brush Roll: Contains a rotating brush roll for deep cleaning.
  • Edge Cleaning: Equipped with active edge cleaning brushes on both sides for cleaning along baseboards and furniture.
  • Motor Protection: Includes an automatic resetting motor protector to prevent damage from overloads.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly:
    1. Prepare the Rainbow vacuum according to its Quick Start Guide.
    2. Insert the male end of the bottom wand into the opening on top of the Power Nozzle, pressing down until the button lock clicks.
  • Operation:
    1. Plug in the Rainbow vacuum.
    2. Press the main power button on the Rainbow; it will start in high speed.
    3. To disengage the Power Nozzle from its upright locked position, press down on the top of the Power Nozzle with your left foot and pull backward.
    4. To activate the Power Nozzle's motor, squeeze the trigger on the hose handle. Releasing the trigger turns the Power Nozzle off.
    5. Guide the Power Nozzle slowly back and forth over carpets with free and easy strokes, allowing the device and Rainbow to perform the cleaning.
    6. To lock the Power Nozzle back into the upright position, grasp the wand assembly and push forward until the wand system engages in the locking tabs.
    7. To disconnect the Power Nozzle from the wand, place your foot on the foot release located above the pivot arm.
  • Active Edge Cleaning: The active brush edge cleaners on both sides allow users to guide the Power Nozzle along baseboards or next to furniture to remove trapped dirt.
  • Surface Compatibility:
    • Carpets: Ideal for cleaning carpets.
    • Hard Surfaces: Consult the flooring manufacturer before use on bare hard surfaces and test in an inconspicuous location to verify no damage occurs.
    • Polished or Glossy Finish Hard Surfaces: CAUTION: The Power Nozzle is NOT for use on polished or glossy finish hard surface floors.
    • Transportation on Polished or Glossy Finish Hard Surfaces: When transporting the Power Nozzle across such floors, it MUST NOT be running, the wands should be in the upright lock position, and the Power Nozzle should be tipped back on its rear two wheels.

Maintenance Features:

  • Belt Replacement:
    • Recommendation: Replace the Power Nozzle belt every 12 to 18 months or when decreased cleaning performance is noticed.
    • Procedure:
      1. WARNING: Disconnect from electrical supply before servicing.
      2. Turn the Power Nozzle upside down.
      3. Turn the sole plate fastener a quarter-turn to the left (counterclockwise) using a flat-bladed screwdriver or coin.
      4. Push the tabs on both sides of the sole plate outward with both thumbs while lifting to unlock.
      5. Insert index fingers into the two side openings near the wheels. Pull the side tabs up while pushing in to lift off the sole plate.
      6. Rotate the brush roll assembly forward (with edge cleaning brushes upside down) and remove it.
      7. Slide the worn or broken belt off the motor shaft with a finger. Lift the brush roll out and remove the worn belt.
      8. Place the new belt over the end of the brush roll assembly and position it around the pulley.
      9. Place the brush roll upside down with the edge cleaning brushes centered on top of the two side tabs. Slide the belt over the end of the motor shaft.
      10. Rotate the brush roll assembly forward until the edge cleaning brushes face up. Spin the brush roll toward you to position the belt on the center of the pulley.
      11. Position the sole plate over the top of the Power Nozzle cover. Press down until the front, two side tabs, and back tabs snap and lock in.
      12. Turn the fastener a quarter-turn to the right (clockwise) using a flat-bladed screwdriver or coin to lock the sole plate.
    • Spare Belt: The Power Nozzle comes with one replacement belt located in a spare belt pocket under the sole plate. Additional belts can be obtained from an Authorized Rainbow Distributor.
  • Troubleshooting: A troubleshooting guide is provided to help identify and correct minor issues. For unresolved issues or service procedures not listed, contact an Authorized Rainbow Distributor or Service Center.
    • Common Issues and Solutions:
      • Motor not running: Ensure the handle trigger is activated, wands are properly connected and seated, and the automatic resetting motor protector has not tripped (turn Rainbow off for 30 seconds, then back on).
