Overview

This document is an Owner's Manual for the Rattan Pathfinder electric bicycle, providing comprehensive information on its assembly, operation, maintenance, and warranty. It aims to guide users through becoming proficient with their new e-bike.

Function Description

The Rattan Pathfinder is an electric bicycle designed for personal transportation, offering both pedal-assist and pure electric modes. It is equipped with a motor to provide assistance during pedaling or to power the bike entirely, and a battery for energy storage. The bike features a display that provides real-time information such as speed, battery level, motor wattage, and pedal assist level, and allows for various settings adjustments. It also includes essential components like a headlight and taillight for visibility, and a rear rack for carrying items. The Pathfinder is designed to offer a comfortable and efficient riding experience, with features like front suspension and a derailleur for gear changes.

Usage Features

The Rattan Pathfinder offers several features to enhance the riding experience:

  • Pedal-Assist Modes: The bike supports multiple pedal-assist levels (0-5), allowing riders to choose the amount of motor assistance they receive while pedaling. This helps conserve energy and extend range.
  • Pure Electric Mode: For times when pedaling is not desired, the bike can operate solely on electric power, providing a convenient and effortless ride.
  • Display Interface: The LCD display is central to controlling and monitoring the bike. It shows crucial information like current speed, battery charge, motor wattage, and the active pedal assist level. Users can switch between different display surfaces to view trip mileage, total mileage (ODO), maximum speed, average speed, and total riding time.
  • Mode Selection: Riders can select between ECO, Normal, and Sport modes, which adjust the acceleration and power consumption. ECO mode offers less acceleration and consumes the least power, while Sport mode provides stronger acceleration at the cost of higher power usage.
  • Headlight Control: The headlight can be manually turned on or off using a dedicated button on the display controls, ensuring visibility in varying light conditions.
  • Walking Mode: A unique feature that allows the bike to move at a constant slow speed (less than 6 km/h) without pedaling, useful when walking alongside the bike with little effort. This mode is activated by pressing and holding the "-" button and stops when the button is released.
  • USB Charging: The display unit includes a USB charging function, indicated by a plug symbol on the screen, allowing users to charge small electronic devices on the go.
  • Adjustable Seat: The seat height can be easily adjusted using a quick-release lever, ensuring a comfortable and ergonomic riding position for different users. It's important not to raise the seatpost beyond the minimum insertion marking.
  • Unit Settings: Users can toggle between imperial units (miles & mph) and metric units (kilometers & km/h) for speed and distance readings through the display settings.
  • Auto Shut-Off: To conserve battery, the display has an auto shut-off feature that turns off the screen if the bike is not operated for a set period. This time can be adjusted from 0 to 9 minutes, with 0 minutes indicating the feature is closed.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Rattan Pathfinder. The manual provides guidance on several maintenance aspects:

  • Battery Care and Protection:
    • Charging: The battery can be charged both on and off the bike. It's recommended to charge in a cool, dry, indoor area, away from direct sunlight, dirt, or debris, and within a temperature range of 50°F~77°F (10°C~25°C).
    • Regular Charging: Even when not in use, the battery should be charged once a week to prevent issues.
    • Post-Ride Charging: The battery should be recharged after each use to ensure it's ready for the next ride and to maximize its range.
    • Charging Time: Normal charging takes 4-5 hours, though it may take longer for the battery management system to balance, especially when new or after long storage periods.
    • Charge Indicator: The charger shows a red light during charging and turns green when fully charged.
    • Overcharging Prevention: The charger automatically stops charging when the battery is full. However, it's advised to detach the charger within one hour of the green light appearing, or as soon as possible, and never to charge for more than 12 hours to prevent unnecessary wear on components.
    • Key Management: Users are advised to keep the battery key carefully, as losing it will prevent the battery from being locked. Rattan does not provide duplicate keys.
  • Pre-Ride Checks: Before each ride, users should check the electric bike to ensure it's operating correctly, including the braking system, and that all safety labels are in place and understood. Axle guards, chain guards, or other covers should be tightened and fixed.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section with common problems and their solutions, such as issues with battery charging, abnormal brake noise, motor noise, and flat tires. This empowers users to address minor issues themselves or understand when to seek professional help.
  • Display Settings for Maintenance: The display allows access to advanced settings where users can adjust parameters like backlight brightness, pedal assist levels, and restore factory settings. It's important not to change these settings while riding for safety reasons.
  • Professional Assembly/Maintenance Recommendation: For assembly or maintenance tasks that require specific skills or tools, the manual strongly recommends consulting a local, certified, and reputable bike mechanic to prevent component failure, injury, or death.
  • Water Damage Prevention: The electric bike is not waterproof, and water damage is not covered by the warranty. Riders are advised to avoid riding in wet conditions, as this can damage electronics and cause injury.
  • Physical Damage Prevention: Users are cautioned against negligent care, extreme riding, and modifying the product from its original design, as physical damage from these actions is not covered under warranty.
  • Order Information for Support: When contacting customer support, users are asked to provide their order number and the platform of purchase, which helps the support team efficiently address inquiries.
