Troubleshooting

Overview

The device is an Outdoor LP Gas Griddle, Model No. GGC1643M, designed for residential outdoor cooking. It operates on liquid propane (LP) gas and features a griddle surface for cooking.

Function Description:

This outdoor griddle is designed for cooking food using LP gas burners. It includes a main griddle surface, side shelves for preparation or holding items, and a grease management system. The griddle is intended for outdoor use only and should not be operated in enclosed areas like buildings or garages. It is crucial to follow all safety warnings and instructions for proper assembly, operation, and maintenance to prevent injury, property damage, fire, or explosion.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Fuel Type: Liquid Propane (LP) gas only. Conversion to natural gas is dangerous and will void the warranty.
  • LP Gas Cylinder: Requires a standard 20 lb (9 kg) LP gas cylinder with Acme Type 1 external threaded valve connection (not included). The cylinder must be constructed and marked in accordance with U.S. DOT or Canadian CSA standards, arranged for vapor withdrawal, and equipped with a listed overfilling prevention device (OPD) and a cylinder collar.
  • Inlet Pressure: Designed to operate at an inlet pressure of 11 inches water column.
  • Burners: Features multiple burners (one U burner and three standard burners, totaling four burners) with individual control knobs. There is also a dedicated sear control knob.
  • Ignition: Utilizes an igniter for lighting burners. A lighting hook is provided for manual lighting with a match if the igniter fails.
  • Clearance: Minimum clearance from sides and back of the unit to combustible construction is 36 inches (91.4 cm). It should not be used under any type of overhang or roof.
  • Side Shelf Weight Capacity: Maximum side shelf weight is 33 lbs (15 kg).
  • Assembly: Requires two people for assembly and takes approximately one hour.
  • Dimensions (LP Gas Tank): Approximately 17.9 inches (45.5 cm) in height and 12.2 inches (31 cm) in diameter for a 20 lb (9 kg) tank.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: Strictly for outdoor use, away from walls, structures, or buildings (minimum 10 feet / 3.05 m clearance). Not for commercial use.
  • Side Shelves: Foldable side shelves provide additional workspace. They must be securely held while opening and closing.
  • Grease Management: Includes a grease cup to collect cooking grease, which must be emptied and properly disposed of after each use.
  • Control Knobs: Individual control knobs for each burner allow for precise temperature adjustment, from OFF to HIGH.
  • Sear Burner: A dedicated sear burner operates at very high temperatures for searing food and sealing in juices.
  • Leak Testing: A leak test must be performed before each use and every time the LP cylinder is connected. A solution of liquid dish soap and water is used to check for bubbles at connections.
  • Lighting Procedure: Step-by-step instructions for lighting burners using the igniter or a match with the provided lighting hook.
  • Flare-up Control: Guidance on minimizing flare-ups by trimming excess fat, cooking high-fat meats on low settings, and ensuring proper grease drainage. In case of a grease fire, turn off control knobs and the LP gas tank valve; do NOT use water.
  • Seasoning Griddle: Critical for prolonging the griddle's life, making the cooking surface non-stick, and preventing rust. Seasoning is required before first use and after each use. This involves applying cooking oil and heating the griddle until the oil smokes, repeating the process multiple times.
  • Refurbishing Griddle Surface: Instructions are provided for restoring the griddle surface if it has rust or stubborn food residue, involving scrubbing with a BBQ stone and re-seasoning.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: The griddle should be thoroughly cleaned and inspected on a regular basis. All cleaning and maintenance should be done when the griddle is cool and the fuel supply is disconnected.
  • Cart Surfaces: Clean with mild dish soap and water, or a citrus-based degreaser for stubborn stains.
  • Burner Cleaning: Requires two people to remove the griddle surface for access. Burners should be cleaned of residue, dirt, and clogged ports (using a stiff wire). Venturi tubes should be cleaned with a small bottle brush or compressed air. Burners should be inspected for damage and replaced if necessary.
  • Hose Inspection: The regulator and hose assembly should be inspected before each use for abrasion, wear, cuts, or leaks. Replace if damaged.
  • Storage: Before storing, the griddle must be cooled, cleaned, and seasoned. The LP gas tank must be disconnected and stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from children and temperatures above 125°F. If storing the griddle indoors, the LP tank must be removed and stored outdoors. A griddle cover is recommended for outdoor storage.
  • No Abrasive Cleaners: Abrasive cleaners and oven cleaner should not be used on any part of the griddle.
  • No Valve Orifice Enlargement: Do not enlarge valve orifices or burner ports during cleaning.
  • Burner Flame Condition Check: A chart is provided to help identify if burners need cleaning based on flame appearance (soft blue flames with slight yellow tips are normal; noisy hard blue flames or wavy yellow flames indicate a need for cleaning or replacement).
