Indoor Blower Motors
v0.2
Climate (Delay) Profiles
The technician should be aware of what delays or ramping profiles are programmed
into the motor from the manufacturer’s literature. This will save the misunderstanding
of what the motor is doing on initial start of a cycle and at the end of the cycle.
- There may be a programmed amount of time before the motor starts, or the
motor may start at a low almost un-noticeable airflow depending on the
program. The motor must be given time to run through the profile timings and
steps before it reaches the 100% airflow for that setting.
- Conversely there may be a programmed amount of time once the cycle ends
before the motor will come to a full stop. There may even be step down levels
in the off cycle depending on the program.
- Remember that once the cycle ends, and the profile is complete, the motor
may continue to run if continuous fan is selected at the thermostat. This motor
can run at a very slow almost in-audible speed in continuous fan mode.
- Notice that the “slew rate” also changes with each profile. This the rate at
which the motor transitions between two states.
- Always follow the manufacturer’s literature when setting up delays or
profiles.
There may be situations where a specific profile is not recommended.
For example:
In a hot/humid climate, off cycle delay may not be recommended due to re-
humidification.
