Do you have a question about the Reka MS 80 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Reka MS 80 and MS 200 are hot-melt glue applicators designed for efficient and rapid bonding of parts. These devices operate by dispensing non-reactive hot-melt glue through a mechanical conveying system. They are suitable for hot-melt glues with a viscosity range of 1000 to 15,000 mPas, though operation outside this range is possible with limitations. The applicators are intended for use by qualified personnel who have been familiarized with proper use and safety precautions.

Function Description:

The core function of both the MS 80 and MS 200 is to heat and dispense hot-melt glue. The glue, typically in granulate, pillow, chip, or stick/slug form, is loaded into a tank where it is heated to a specified working temperature. Once molten, the glue is dispensed by pulling a trigger, which activates a mechanical conveying system. The quantity of glue dispensed is proportional to how far the trigger is pulled. The MS 80 is a simpler model, heating up automatically when plugged in, while the MS 200 features an illuminated on/off switch for direct control. Both models allow for temperature adjustment to suit different hot-melt glues.

  • Recommended Melts: Hot-melt granulate, pillows, chips, and 43mm sticks/slugs

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Adjustment: Both models are factory-set to approximately 200 °C. The temperature can be adjusted using a screw driver on the back of the MS 80 or the upper side of the MS 200. Turning the screw clockwise increases temperature, while counter-clockwise decreases it. Force should not be used when adjusting the screw to avoid damage.
  • Trigger Adjustment (MS 200 only): The MS 200 features an adjustable trigger on the left side of the casing. This screw influences the lever stroke and the amount of glue dispensed per stroke. A longer stroke allows for more glue output.
  • Loading Hot-Melt: Granulate or other forms of hot-melt are loaded into the tank, ensuring it is filled up to 1.5 cm (approximately 0.6 inch) under the rim. The lid should only be opened after the applicator has warmed up. For the MS 200, the star grip is turned counter-clockwise to open the lid and clockwise to close it.
  • Nozzle Replacement: Nozzles should only be replaced when the applicator is warm (60-80 °C) and empty, and after unplugging the connecting cable. Replacing a nozzle when cold can damage the equipment, while replacing it when too hot can cause liquid glue to leak.
  • Safety Features: Users are advised to wear protective gloves and safety goggles. The hot nozzle and lid become very hot during operation, posing a burn risk. Hot glue contact with skin should be immediately cooled with cold water, and medical attention sought if necessary. Hot glue in eyes requires immediate cooling with running water for 15 minutes and medical consultation. The glue jet should never be directed towards people.
  • Stand and Storage: Both applicators come with a wire stand for safe resting. The MS 200 also has a magnetic foot, allowing it to be placed on magnetic surfaces, eliminating the need for the wire stand in such cases. Applicators should never be laid on their side. Holding the nozzle top upward for too long can cause hot-melt to reach the lid and flow out when opened.
  • Overheating Prevention: It is crucial not to exceed the recommended operating temperature of the hot-melt glue, as indicated in its technical datasheet. Overheating can lead to decomposition of the glue, affecting user health and applicator operability.
  • Magnetic Field (MS 200 only): The MS 200 uses a super magnet. Users should keep magnets away from items sensitive to magnetic fields and be aware that magnets can influence pacemakers.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Under normal operating conditions and adherence to the manual, the glue applicator typically does not require cleaning, as non-reactive glue will remelt for reuse. However, if the glue cokes due to exceeding its working temperature (especially polyamide-based hot-melts), the applicator should be cleaned with an appropriate cleaning liquid.
  • Prohibited Cleaning Agents: Solvents, benzine, benzene, toluene, acetone, turpentine, or paraffin must never be used for cleaning, as they pose an explosion risk.
  • Regular Maintenance: For frequent users, regular maintenance by the service department is recommended.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as low glue output, thin/viscous glue, leaking nozzles, brown flakes in hot-melt, or the applicator not heating up. Solutions include replacing the nozzle, checking temperature settings, lowering heating temperature, and checking power supply or switch status. Self-made repairs void the warranty.
  • Environmental Protection: Electric tools should not be disposed of with domestic waste. In accordance with European directives, used electric tools must be collected separately for environmentally compatible re-use. Packing materials from Reka Klebetechnik are fully recyclable. Instructions for disposing of hot-melt glues and cartridges should be followed from their respective safety specifications.
