Reliable F1Res Series

The Reliable Model F1Res Series Glass Bulb Residential Sprinklers are cULus Listed residential sprinklers designed for fast thermal response, meeting UL 1626 requirements. They are intended for installation in accordance with NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D, and are suitable for use in residential occupancies or residential portions of any occupancy where permitted. These sprinklers are listed for use in wet systems only.

Function Description:

These sprinklers utilize a 3 mm glass bulb operating element and are available in both pendent and horizontal sidewall orientations. They are engineered to provide a minimum design density of 0.1 gpm/sf (4.1 mm/min) for NFPA 13 applications, with flow and pressure never falling below the minimums specified in the Listed Design Criteria tables. For NFPA 13R and 13D applications, the design flow and pressure must meet or exceed the specified minimums.

Temperature Ratings: 155°F (68°C) and 175°F (79°C). Note that for SWC Conical Concealed Horizontal Sidewall Sprinklers, the 175°F (79°C) rating is not for installation where the maximum ceiling temperature exceeds 100°F due to cover plate temperature rating.

Coverage Area and Hydraulic Design Criteria (Examples):

F1Res30 Pendent: Max. 16x16 ft (4.9x4.9 m) with 13 gpm (49 l/min) at 18.8 psi (1.3 bar). Deflector to ceiling distance: 1 to 4 inches (25 to 100 mm).
F1Res30 CCP Pendent: Max. 14x14 ft (4.3x4.3 m) with 11 gpm (38 l/min) at 13.4 psi (0.92 bar). Deflector to ceiling distance: 1/2 to 1 inch (13 to 25 mm).
F1Res49 Pendent: Max. 20x20 ft (6.1x6.1 m) with 20 gpm (76 l/min) at 16.7 psi (1.15 bar) for 1-4 inch deflector distance, or 22 gpm (83 l/min) at 20.2 psi (1.39 bar) for 4-8 inch deflector distance.
F1Res44 HSW (Horizontal Sidewall): Max. 16x20 ft (4.9x6.1 m) with 23 gpm (87 l/min) at 27.4 psi (1.89 bar) for both 4-6 inch and 6-12 inch deflector distances.
F1Res58 HSWX (Horizontal Sidewall): Max. 14x26 ft (4.3x7.9 m) with 42 gpm (160 l/min) at 52.4 psi (3.63 bar) for 4-6 inch deflector distance, or 46 gpm (174 l/min) at 62.9 psi (4.34 bar) for 6-12 inch deflector distance.

Usage Features:

Decorative Finishes: Available with various finishes, including recessed escutcheons (F1, F2, FV, FP) and conical concealed cover plates (CCP, SWC, SWC-2).
Escutcheon Compatibility: Specific recessed escutcheons (F1, F2, FV, FP) are designated for use with Model F1Res sprinklers. Not all F1Res sprinklers are compatible with all escutcheons; users must confirm listing for individual sprinklers. Model FV escutcheons and CCP cover plates are not for use in positively pressurized ceiling plenums.
Installation: Sprinklers must be installed as shown in the bulletin. For wall or ceiling installations, a hole diameter of 2-1/4" (57 mm) is required for F1 or F2 recessed escutcheons, and 2-5/8" (67 mm) for FP recessed escutcheons, CCP, SWC, and SWC-2 cover plates.
Torque Recommendations:
- 1/2" NPT and ISO7-1R1/2: 8-18 ft-lbs (11-24 N-m).
- 3/4" NPT and ISO7-1R3/4: 14-20 ft-lbs (19-27 N-m).
- Over-tightening can cause leakage or impairment.
Horizontal Sidewall Installation: F1Res HSW sprinklers require the flow arrow on the deflector to point away from the near wall and the "Top" marking to face the ceiling.

Maintenance Features:

Regular Inspection: Sprinklers and the system must be inspected and maintained in accordance with NFPA 25, 13, 13D, and 13R, as well as local Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements.
Storage: Sprinklers should remain in their original cartons and packaging until installation to prevent damage.
Cleaning: Dust can be removed by gentle vacuuming without touching the sprinkler. Do not use soap, water, ammonia liquid, or other cleaning fluids.
Replacement:
- Replace any sprinkler that has been painted (other than factory applied).
- Replace any damaged sprinkler, or one with cracks in the glass bulb, or where liquid has been lost from the glass bulb.
- Properly installed CCP, SWC, and SWC-2 cover plates require an air gap for proper operation; this gap should not be sealed or painted.
Spare Stock: A stock of spare sprinklers should be maintained for quick replacement of damaged or operated units.
Bulb Protectors: Glass bulb sprinklers come with orange bulb protectors to prevent damage during shipping and handling. These protectors must be removed only when the sprinkler system is placed in service, by undoing the clasp by hand. RASCO wrenches are designed for installation with protectors in place.
Wrenches: Only Model W2 (for pendent and HSW) or Model W4 (for recessed and concealed) wrenches should be used. Using other wrenches may damage the sprinklers. The Model W4 wrench has two sets of jaws, one equivalent to a Model GFR2 wrench and the other to a Model W1 wrench. The smallest set of jaws that fits the sprinkler's wrench flats should be used with a nominal 1/2" square drive ratchet and 5" (125mm) extension.
