Advanced Features
COMB Switch
The MINI’s comb switch is primarily used to toggle between a notch style composite decoder
(Retro) or an automatic 5-line comb filter (Auto) mode.
Many older off-spec systems such as the NES will look better with a notch style filter. Other
systems such as the PC Engine may look better in (Auto) due to their higher quality
composite output.
The ‘Auto’ setting also engages a high frequency luma filter in S-Video mode. This reduces
the luma sharpness slightly but eliminates chroma cross-talk noise. This setting is mainly
useful for PAL/PAL-60 N64 users as chroma noise may be a problem unless you are using
shielded S-Video cables. In the case of the N64, since the image is already blurry, the slight
loss of luma resolution is negligible.
Multiple Inputs
You can connect both composite and S-Video inputs to the MINI at the same time. The MINI
will automatically detect and select the first active input. When the selected input is turned
off, the MINI will go back into search mode until a new valid source is found.
The audio inputs are shared. If you are connecting two consoles, you may use a Y-splitter for
each audio input to accommodate both sources. Of course, you will only want to have one
console on at a time, or else the sound will mix together.
You can also connect a S-Video/composite switch to the MINI using a Y-splitter, and the MINI
will automatically work with the switch to go to your selected input.
