What to do if my RIDGID Power Tool motor does not start?
    • J
      John WilsonJul 26, 2025
If the RIDGID Power Tool motor doesn't start, first ensure the power drive is plugged into a power source. Check the fuse and replace it if it's blown. Inspect the brushes; if they are worn, replace them. Overload due to dull dies can also prevent starting, so replace the dies if necessary. Ensure you're using adequate RIDGID thread cutting oil. Also, check that the brushes are making good contact with the brush holder by tightening the screws and ensuring the brush is firmly pressed onto the commutator.

If your RIDGID Power Tool motor is not starting, check the dies. Dull or broken dies can cause the motor not to start, so replace them. Also, ensure the dies are set correctly and assembled in the correct sequence. Using low-quality pipe can also prevent the motor from starting; make sure only good quality pipe is used.

Clean dirty support arm jaws with a wire brush. Make sure the support arm sits square on the pipe. Finally, eliminate any burr on the spline end of the die head with a file.
