Overview

The Rinnai Freestanding Royale ETR - FS35ETR Flame Fire is a radiant/convector gas space heater designed for residential heating, featuring a glass front, ceramic log set, and a natural draft flue system with forced convection. It is designed for freestanding installation and is not intended to be built-in or used with flexible flueing. The appliance operates on either Natural Gas (NG) or LPG (Propane), with specific gas input rates for both pilot/low and high settings.

Function Description:

The Rinnai Freestanding Royale ETR provides heating through a multi-port ceramic burner and offers a visual flame effect. It is equipped with an automatic electronic ignition system and a touch-pad control panel for operation. The heater incorporates a thermostat for temperature control, allowing users to set desired room temperatures. Key operational features include:

  • ON/OFF Control: A main switch on the control panel for turning the unit on and off.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Buttons to increase or decrease the temperature setting, with preset options for low (approx. 10°C), 16°C to 26°C in 1°C steps, and continuously high.
  • Flame Function: A dedicated button to override the thermostat and set the heater to a default Medium/High heat setting for a full visual flame effect.
  • Auto Off Function: When selected, the thermostat turns the burners down to the OFF heat setting (pilot only) when the selected temperature is reached. If not selected, the thermostat turns burners down to the LOW heat setting.
  • Timers (Timer 1 & Timer 2): Allows programming of two ON/OFF periods within a 24-hour cycle. The heater will remain on standby until up to one hour prior to the programmed time, initiating a "Preheat" function to reach the preset temperature by the ON time.
  • Override Function: Temporarily changes operation from ON to OFF or OFF to ON until the next programmed setting is reached.
  • Lock Function: Prevents accidental operation and alterations by children.
  • Remote Control: A handheld remote control allows manual ON/OFF operation and temperature adjustment. It operates within 5 meters and at a 40° angle to the receiver on the heater's front edge.

  • Standby Mode: The heater can remain on standby between programmed timer intervals or when the "Override" function is active.
  • Error Code Display: The digital display shows specific error messages (e.g., Ignition Failure, Flame Failure, Overheat) to assist in diagnosing problems. Many errors can be cleared by cycling the heater OFF then ON again.
  • Initial Operation: When first turned ON, only the front and middle burner (low setting) ignite. After 8 minutes, the middle burner (high) and rear burner (high) ignite. This sequence occurs each time the appliance is switched on.
  • Power Failure Memory: Timer programs are retained in memory during a power failure, but the clock will stop and need to be reset.

Maintenance Features:

  • Annual Servicing: Rinnai recommends annual servicing by a qualified service technician, including inspection of the flue system.
  • Cleaning: Service calls for general cleaning, maintenance, and wear and tear are not covered by warranty and may be chargeable.
  • Log Installation: The ceramic log set is packed inside the heater and must be installed correctly. Loose ember bed material should be gently placed in front of the front log, avoiding burner ports.
  • Dress Guard: A dress guard is fitted to reduce the risk of fire or injury from burns and should not be permanently removed. A secondary guard is recommended for children or the infirm.
  • Gas Leak Test: After installation, a gas leak test must be performed using a soapy solution on all gas connections.
  • Log Burn-in: When first lit, the logs need approximately 2 hours to burn in, during which the flame color may change, and some smoke/smell may be experienced. Adequate ventilation is recommended during this period.
  • Supply Cord Replacement: If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a similarly qualified person using a genuine Rinnai spare part (Part No. 90182065).
