Another reason could be no gas present; ensure the gas supply is turned on. It could also be due to a power cut; re-ignite after power is restored. Air in the gas pipe may also be a factor, in which case you should purge the air. Finally, it could be due to an ignition failure; repeat the lighting procedure.
