Overview

The Rinnai Flame Fire Inbuilt Royale (Australia) / Timberflame IB35R (New Zealand) is a radiant/convector, glass-fronted, ceramic log space heater designed for installation in masonry fireplaces or with a Rinnai Zero Clearance box for non-masonry applications. It operates with a forced convection and natural draught flue system, providing both radiant and convective heat.

Function Description:

The Rinnai Flame Fire is a gas-fired heater that utilizes ceramic logs and an ember bed to simulate the appearance of a traditional wood fire while providing efficient heating. It features a push-button combination control for ease of use. The appliance is designed to distribute warm air through a fan system, enhancing heat circulation within the room. A key safety feature is a spring-loaded flue protector plate for masonry chimney installations, which prevents foreign objects from entering the flue. For installations using a flue liner or Zero Clearance Box, this plate must be removed. The heater requires an earthed power point for operation and is equipped with electronic spark ignition.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Numbers: FGL30 IDBN (NG) Australia, FGL30 IDBL (Propane) Australia, IB35RN (NG) New Zealand, IB35RL (Propane) New Zealand.
  • Input: 33 MJ/h for both Natural Gas and Propane.
  • Gas Control: Rinnai Push-Button Combination Control.
  • Burner: Ceramic Logs, Ember Bed, and Heat Burner.
  • Gas Inlet: 15mm Copper Flare Connection.
  • Test Point Pressure: Natural Gas 0.95 kPa; Propane 2.40 kPa.
  • Flue Type: Natural Draught.
  • Flue Termination: Requires an approved 100mm cowl.
  • Ignition: Electronic Spark.
  • Power Supply: 230/240V, 50Hz unit with a 3-pin plug and supply lead. Replacement leads must be Rinnai P/N 90179599 (Aust.) or 6765B (NZ).
  • Fan: Tangential 2 Speed, Watt Rating 90W.
  • Dimensions: The manual provides detailed diagrams with specific measurements for installation, including minimum clearances. For example, minimum clearances from combustible materials are 300mm from the sides and top, and 1000mm from the front. The heater must be mounted on a hearth no less than 50mm high and the width and depth of the heater.
  • Data Plate Location: Inside the right-hand side panel.

Usage Features:

The Rinnai Flame Fire is designed for user convenience with its push-button controls for ignition and adjusting heat levels. A fan switch allows users to control the forced convection aspect of the heating. The appliance is intended to be straightforward to operate, with instructions provided for lighting the heater, adjusting heat, and turning it off. During the initial "burning in" period (approximately 2 hours), the logs will achieve their full flame pattern and glow, and some smoke and smell may be experienced. It is recommended to run the heater on the high position in a well-ventilated room until these dissipate. The flame color may change after this initial period.

Maintenance Features:

The manual emphasizes the importance of professional installation, servicing, and removal by an authorized person. Regular checks of the chimney and flue system are crucial for safe and efficient operation.

  • Chimney Inspection: Prior to installation, the chimney must be inspected for proper height, cap deterioration, creosote stains, blockages, clearance to combustibles, soot/creosote accumulation, structural deterioration, and loose/broken bricks. A smoke pellet test is required to confirm an updraft and check for leaks.
  • Flue Liner System: Rinnai strongly recommends installing an approved flue liner system in all installations. If a liner is not used, the masonry chimney must meet specific internal and external criteria, including sufficient height above the firebox for the debris diverter, sound construction free from leakage, absence of soot/creosote, fixed open damper plate, sealed underfloor air supply, and an approved chimney cap/cowl.
  • Log Installation: The logset, consisting of a Main Log, Top Log, and Right Log, is installed by aligning pins and holes. Loose ember bed material is gently placed in front of the front log, taking care not to block burner ports. This material must be placed after logs are fitted and removed first if logs need to be re-positioned.
  • Sealing: Foam strips are supplied to form a seal between the heater and the fireplace. If an adequate seal cannot be achieved with these strips, non-combustible insulation must be used.
  • Gas Connection: The gas supply must be purged of air and swarf before connecting the stainless steel flexi-tube to the gas control valve. All connections must be checked for gas leaks upon completion of work.
  • Burner Pressure Check: This is a critical installation step performed by a certified gas installer. The test point is located on the gas control valve behind the lower front panel. A manometer is used to check and adjust pressure according to data plate specifications.
  • Installation Checklist: A comprehensive checklist is provided for certified gas installers to ensure all installation and commissioning steps are completed, including fireplace and chimney inspection, flue liner requirements, gas pressure setting, log placement, ember granule placement, sealing, and end-user instruction.

The appliance is NOT designed to be built directly into any combustible opening; a Rinnai Zero Clearance Kit is available for such installations. For Australian installations, the supplied wire dressguard must be installed. Rinnai reserves the right to change or modify specifications without notice.
