Overview

This document is a user manual for the ROBAM CD70-9W6H40 Induction Cooktop.

Function Description

The ROBAM CD70-9W6H40 is an induction hob designed for cooking. It utilizes electromagnetic vibrations to generate heat directly in the pan, rather than heating the glass surface itself, making it an efficient and safe cooking technology. The cooktop features multiple cooking zones with varying power levels and includes functions such as a timer, child lock, boost function, keep warm function, and flexible area cooking. It is suitable for a range of cooking tasks from gentle simmering to rapid boiling and searing.

Usage Features

General Operation: The cooktop is controlled via a touch control panel. To start cooking, turn on the ON/OFF control, and the buzzer will beep once. Select a suitable pan for the cooking zone and ensure the bottom of the pan and the surface of the cooking zone are clean and dry. Touch the heating zone selection control, and an indicator next to the key will flash. Adjust the power level by touching the slider or the "+" or "-" controls. The power can be set from level 1 to 9.

Boost Function: The Boost function provides a higher power level for a short duration (up to 5 minutes) for faster cooking. To activate, touch the heating zone selection button and then the Boost button. The indicator will show "P". After 5 minutes, the power level automatically returns to the previous setting. If you wish to cancel the Boost function earlier, touch the heating zone selection button and then the Boost button again.

Keep Warm Function: This function is suitable for keeping food warm. To activate, touch the heating zone selection button and then hold it for 1 second. The cooking zone indicator will display "A". To cancel, touch the heating zone selection button and hold it for 1 second, and the display will show "0".

Flexible Area Cooking (Flex Zone): The cooktop includes a flexible area that can be used as a single zone or as two different zones, depending on cooking needs. It supports large, oval, rectangular, and elongated pans. To activate the flexible area as a single big zone, choose the zone that has the flex function and press the flex zone icon. To use it as two independent zones, press the flex zone selection button again. The BBQ function can be used in the flex zone mode to maintain a suitable pan surface temperature.

Timer Function: The timer can be set as a minute minder or to turn off a specific cooking zone.

  • Minute Minder: Touch the timer control, and the indicator will flash and show "30". Adjust the time using "+" or "-" controls (up to 99 minutes). The timer will automatically return to 0 when the time expires.
  • Cooking Zone Timer: To set a timer for a specific cooking zone, first select the zone. Then touch the timer control, and the indicator will flash and show "30". Adjust the time using "+" or "-" controls. The red dot next to the power level indicator will illuminate, indicating that the zone is selected for the timer. When the time expires, the corresponding cooking zone will switch off automatically.

Cookware Selection: Only use cookware with a base suitable for induction cooking. Look for the induction symbol on the packaging or bottom of the pan. The pan should be magnetic, and its bottom should be flat and at least 100 mm in diameter for optimal performance. Pans with jagged edges or rough bases should be avoided as they can scratch the glass surface.

Maintenance Features

Care and Cleaning:

  • Everyday Soiling: Switch off the cooktop. Apply a cooktop cleaner while the glass is still warm (but not hot!). Rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Switch the power to the cooktop back on.
  • Boilovers, Melts, and Hot Sugary Spills: Remove these immediately with a fish slice, palette knife, or razor blade scraper suitable for induction glass cooktops. Be careful of hot cooking zone surfaces. Switch the power to the cooktop off at the wall. Hold the blade or utensil at a 30° angle and scrape the soiling or spill to a cool area of the cooktop. Clean the soiling or spillup with a dish cloth or paper towel. Follow steps 2 to 4 for "Everyday soiling on glass" above.
  • Spillovers on the Touch Controls: Switch the power to the cooktop off. Soak up the spill. Wipe the touch control area with a clean damp sponge or cloth. Wipe the area completely dry with a paper towel. Switch the power to the cooktop back on.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a table for common problems and their possible causes and solutions. For example:

  • F3/F4 (Temperature sensor of the induction coil failure): Contact the supplier.
  • F9/FA (Temperature sensor of the IGBT failure): Contact the supplier.
  • E1/E2 (Abnormal supply voltage): Inspect whether power supply is normal. Power on after the power supply is normal.
  • E3 (High temperature of the induction coil temperature sensor): Contact the supplier.
  • E5 (High temperature of the IGBT temperature sensor): Restart after the hob cools down.
  • No power/Cooktop cannot be turned on: No power. Check power outage, circuit breaker, and ensure the appliance is correctly installed.
  • Touch controls are unresponsive/difficult to operate: Controls may be locked, or there may be a slight film of water or grease over the controls. Unlock controls, clean and dry the surface.
  • Glass is being scratched: Rough-edged cookware or unsuitable, abrasive scourer/cleaning products. Use cookware with flat and smooth bases, and appropriate cleaning methods.
  • Pans make crackling or clicking noises: This is normal for induction cooking due to different metals vibrating differently.
  • Humming noise on high heat setting: This is normal for induction cooking.
  • Fan noise: A cooling fan built into the induction hob prevents overheating. This is normal.
  • Pans do not become hot and appears in the display: The induction hob cannot detect the pan because it is not suitable for induction cooking or is too small. Use suitable cookware that matches the size of the cooking zone.
  • Induction hob or cooking zone has turned itself off unexpectedly, a tone sounds and an error code is displayed: Technical fault. Contact a qualified technician.

Safety Warnings:

  • Electrical Shock Hazard: Disconnect the appliance from the mains electricity supply before any work or maintenance. Ensure proper earthing. Alterations to the domestic wiring system must be made by a qualified electrician.

The instructor should be satisfied that they can use the appliance without danger to themselves or their surroundings. Do not repair or replace any part of the appliance unless specifically recommended in the manual. All other servicing should be done by a qualified technician. Do not use a steam cleaner to clean your cooktop. Do not place or drop heavy objects on your cooktop. Do not stand on your cooktop. Do not use pans with jagged edges or drag pans across the Induction glass surface as this can scratch the glass. Do not use scourers or any other harsh abrasive cleaning agents to clean your cooktop, as these can scratch the Induction glass. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.
