Maintaining the ROHO Hybrid Elite Cushion involves both cleaning and disinfecting procedures to ensure hygiene and prolong product life. The cover and cushion insert require separate care. For the cover, it can be machine washed in cold water (30°C) with mild detergent on a gentle cycle or wiped clean with neutral detergent and cold water, then tumble dried low. For disinfection, the cover can be hand washed in cold water (30°C) using a 1:9 household liquid bleach solution for 10 minutes, followed by thorough rinsing, or machine washed in hot water (60°C) and tumble dried low. It is important to remove the hook fastener pieces from the bottom of the cover before washing.
The cushion insert, made of neoprene rubber, requires careful hand washing. The inflation valve(s) must be closed before cleaning to prevent water or cleaning solution from entering the overlay. It should be hand washed with mild liquid hand soap, hand dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, or a multipurpose detergent, gently scrubbing all surfaces with a soft plastic bristle brush, sponge, or cloth. It is crucial not to machine wash or machine dry the cushion insert or the contoured foam base, and to avoid abrasive cleaners, petroleum-based products, oil-based lotions, lanolin, or phenolic-based disinfectants, as these can degrade the material.
The contoured foam base should be cleaned by removing the cover and gently wiping it with a cloth dampened with water and a household detergent. The cloth should then be rinsed, and the foam re-wiped. The foam must be allowed to air dry thoroughly before the cover is replaced. Since disinfectants are not effective on porous surfaces like foam, if the foam portion becomes soiled or contaminated, it should not be used with multiple individuals, and the soiled or contaminated foam components should be replaced. The product is not packaged in a sterile condition and is not intended for sterilization; however, if institutional protocol demands sterilization, it should be cleaned and disinfected first, then the inflation valve opened, and the lowest possible sterilizing temperature (not exceeding 60°C/158°F) used for the shortest time possible, without autoclaving. Regular inspection of the cover and foam portion for damage is recommended, with replacement if necessary.
