Overview

The Roland CPM-120 is a compact, high-quality powered mixer designed for various audio applications. Its robust construction, featuring an aluminum die-casting body, ensures durability even under rough use. The mixer integrates several features for versatile sound management, including multiple input channels, equalization, effects routing, and flexible output options.

Function Description:

The CPM-120 serves as a central hub for mixing audio signals from various sources such as microphones, musical instruments, and other line-level devices. It amplifies the mixed signal for output to speakers, and also provides options for connecting external effects units, graphic equalizers, and other audio equipment. The mixer can function as a BTL (Bridge-Tied Load) mixing amplifier, offering a powerful mono output option.

  • Selector Switches:
    • Mode Switch: 1 (Stereo Mono).

Other Items:

  • Power Requirement: 117V AC 60Hz, 220/240V AC 50/60Hz.
  • Power Consumption: 350VA.
  • Dimensions: 364(W) x 179(H) x 256(D)mm / 14 5/16" x 7 1/16" x 10 1/16".
  • Weight: 8.2kg / 18 lb.

Usage Features:

  • Input Flexibility: The CPM-120 offers 8 input channels, each with a Mic/Line input jack, allowing for a wide range of audio sources.
  • Tone Control: Each channel includes Treble and Bass controls for boosting or cutting specific frequency ranges, enabling sound shaping. A flat characteristic is achieved at the "◄►" position.
  • Effect Send/Return: Dedicated Effect Send and Return Jacks allow for easy integration of external digital delay machines, echo machines, and reverberation units. The Effect Send Volume controls the amount of signal sent to the external effect unit.
  • Panpot Control: The Panpot control routes input signals to the left and/or right mixing buses, allowing for stereo imaging or mono summing.
  • Level Monitoring: Overload Indicators on each channel light up when the input signal reaches 6dB below the clip level, helping prevent distortion. The Level Indicator (L&R) displays the output signal level, with "0dB" indicating +4dBm.
  • Headphone Monitoring: A dedicated Headphone Jack with its own Volume control allows for independent monitoring of the mix without affecting the main output.
  • Master Volume Control: Independent Master Volume controls for Left and Right channels provide overall volume adjustment for the CPM.
  • Pre-Out and Main-In Jacks: These jacks facilitate connection with external graphic equalizers for feedback elimination and acoustic compatibility. They can also be used to set up another power amplifier or to use the CPM-120 as a power amplifier for other units. When used as a BTL amplifier, the Pre Out Jack L sends an "L+R" signal, and the R channel does not function.
  • Speaker Outputs: Both standard phone jacks and terminals are provided for speaker outputs, offering flexibility in connecting speakers. The Speaker Jack has priority over the Speaker Terminal if both are used simultaneously.
  • Mode Switch: A Mode Switch allows the power amplifier section to be configured for Stereo, Mono (BTL), or Mono to Stereo operation. When operating in MONO (BTL), the speaker should be connected to the MONO (BTL) of the Speaker Jack.
  • Protection Circuit: The unit includes a protection circuit that activates if speakers with impedance lower than specified are connected, or if terminals are short-circuited, preventing damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The unit should be cleaned only with a soft cloth and a mild detergent. Solvents such as thinner should not be used.
  • Environmental Considerations: Avoid using the unit in excessive heat or humidity, or where it may be affected by dust or direct sunlight.
  • Noise Interference: If operating near neon or fluorescent lamps causes noise interference, changing the angle or position of the unit may resolve the issue.
  • Power Management: Always set the volume to zero before turning the unit on or off, or connecting equipment, to prevent sudden loud noises or potential damage.
  • Normal Operation Heat: It is normal for the unit to get warm during AC powered operation.
